Benapole customs intelligence men detained three Indian nationals along with 17 gold bars from check post area on Monday morning. The detainees are identified as Dhiman Sarker, 38, Nithit Singh, 25 and Mahesh Lal, 29, all of Kolkata of the West Bengal, India, said Abdus Sadiq, deputy commissioner, customs intelligence branch, Benapole. The customs intelligence official told that tipped off the intelligence men recovered the gold bars after detaining the Indian nationals at around 9am on Monday. The detainees were trespassing the gold bars worth Tk 1 crore to India after inhaling those. The intelligence personnel recovered the gold bars from their body after using medicine, the official added. 49 Border Guard Battalion men in another raid recovered notes of Tk 5 and 2 worth Tk 45,000 from no man’s land along Benapole border in the morning.
128 drug addicts, peddlers surrendered to Barisal police

Taking a good initiative District Police of Barisal Range arranged a Surrender Ceremony of 128 drug addicts and peddlers of different upazilas of the district recently . The programme arranged at the district police line was presided over by Shafiqul Islam, Deputy Inspector general of police in charge of Barisal Range. In the progrrame styled as ‘say No to drug’ (Madokkey Na Bolun) drug addicts and peddlers were welcomed by giving flower. Then sewing machines were distributed among 58 drug addicts and peddlers as rehabilitation help. In ceremony attended drug peddlers and addicts also took oath led by DIG Md. Shafiqul Islam for returning to normal life by ‘saying no to drug addiction’. Md. Saiful Islam, Barisal district superintendent of police, presided over the programme.

Among others Syed Enayet Hossain, district and session judge, Habibur Rahman, deputy commissioner, mayor and upazila chairman, nirbahi officer of different upazila also attended the programme.

The Bangladeshi currency was recovered in abandoned condition before smuggling to India, said Lieutenant Colonel Ariful Hoque, commanding officer, 49 Border Guard Battalion.
