Future of infrastructure sector companies bright: Experts

The future of the companies related to infrastructure, especially cement and steel industry, is very bright since there is a surge of infrastructure development flowing over the country, said experts at a seminar.
They also said that the works of various mega projects are ongoing in the country like construction of big bridges, upgradation of two-lane roads into four-lanes, for which there is a need for huge quantity of construction materials like cement and steels.
They were addressing a seminar titled “Infrastructure sector companies in capital market: potentials and challenges” held at the Shilpakala Academy on the sidelines of the Arthosuchak Capital Market Expo 2019. Arthosuchak has organized this three-day expo which comes to a close this evening.
Chaired by the Daily Star Business Editor Sajjadur Rahman, United Securities Director Mahfuzur Rahman presented the key-note paper. Crown Cement Chief Executive Officer Masud Khan, Director of AIBL Capital Market Services M Rezaur Rahman, Executive Director of GPH Ispat Abu Bakar Siddique and Bashundhara Group Company Secretary Nasimul Hai took part in the discussion.
CEO of Crown Cement Masud Khan said the most used thing in the world is water followed by concrete while concrete is made of cement, sand, stone and water. “The necessity of concrete is growing day by day in Bangladesh and it will continue to grow in future as urbanization is increasing in our country in a speedy manner while keeping pace with this, the demand of cement and steel is also increasing,” he added.
He said once upon a time, clinker, the main raw material of cement used to import from Vietnam, but now this market has expanded to many countries including Singapore, Dubai and Oman.
Executive Director of GPH Ispat Abu Bakar Siddique said development of a country is not possible without infrastructural development adding that steel and cement industries has a bright prospect in the country in the coming days.
Bashundhara Group Company Secretary Nasimul Hai said the use of concrete in road construction is growing day by day and considering this they are putting emphasis on capacity building of their factories.
