8 held in Jessore while entering BD illegally

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Monday detained eight people from Shahipur frontier area of Sharsha upazila while entering Bangladesh without valid documents. Lt Col Ariful Haque, commanding officer of BGB-49 battalion, said a team of the border force conducted a drive in the area around 7pm and detained them, including three women. The arrestees claimed that they hail from different areas of Khulna and Bhola districts, the CO said, adding that they were handed over to the Benapole Port Police Station.
Housewife commits ‘suicide’ in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: A housewife allegedly committed suicide taking poison at Mokhmoil village in Bagmara upazila early yesterday. The deceased was identified as Anjuara Begum, wife of Mansur Rahman, a resident of the village.Quoting family members, police said Anjuara took poison at her room around 1:00am over a family feud.She later died on the way to a local hospital, reports UNB.
Man sued for violating minor girl in Chuadanga
CHUADANGA: A case was filed on Monday against a man on charge of violating a minor girl at Pirpurkulla village of Dahurhuda upazila of the district. GM Emdadul Haque, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Damurhuda Model Police Station, said the victim’s mother filed the case against Israfil Mondal, 51, a neighbour of the victim and son of Toyaz Mondal. Victim’s family sources said Israfil raped 3rd grader on Wednesday last and threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the matter. Later, she disclosed it to her mother, reports UNB.
Recognition of Bangabandhu’s 7th March Speech celebrated

Local MP Fahmi Golandaz Babel led a two- kilometers long victory rally with 15 thousands people in observance of the celebration of recognition of Historic 7th March Speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Gafargaon under Mymensingh on Saturday. During the rally , Upazila Parishad Chairman Asraf Uddin Badal, Pouro Mayor S.M.Ikbal Hussain Sumon , ,UNO Dr Shamim Rahman were also present in the procession. Upazila Administration organised a huge colourful procession from upazila Chattor after parading main roads of Pourosava and ended at Central Memorial adjacent to Jamtola Crossing of Gafargaon Upazila. They placed the floral wreath of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman . People from all walks of life including government officials, political leaders, cultural activists, social workers, 15 union parishad, Freedom Fighters, teachers, students and media men joined the rally with massive joy, happiness and enthusiasm. The Historic March 7 Speech of Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been included in the Memory of World International Register, a list of World’s important documentary heritage maintained by UNESCO.
2 ‘robbers’ lynched in B’baria
BRAHMANBARIA: Two suspected robbers were killed in a lynch-mob attack at Hariabaha village of Kasba upazila on Monday night. The deceased could not be identified yet. Officer-in-charge of Kasba Police Station Mohammad Mohiuddin said a group of bandits was taking preparations to commit robbery at the village when a night guard spotted them around 11pm. As the guard raised an alarm, several hundred residents of the village came out of their houses and chased the robbers, he said. They managed to catch two of the hoodlums while they rest managed to flee. Later, the angry mob gave the duo a good beating, killing them on the spot, reports UNB.
