Youth held with arms in Jessore  
JESSORE: Police in a drive arrested a young man along with a pistol, one bullet and two magazines from Chanchra in the district town on Saturday night. Acting on a tip-off that arms trader Diponkor Roy alias Dipu, 32, son of Suvash Roy of Bagerhat district, was coming to Jessore with a consignment of arms and ammunitions riding a bus of ‘Liza Paribahan’, a police team set up a check post at Chanchra. When the bus reached the check post, police searched the vehicle and arrested Dipu along with a pistol, one bullet and two magazines around 9:45 pm, said sub-inspector Sayed Bayezid, in-charge of Chanchra Police Camp. A case was filed with Kotwali Model Police Station in this connection, reports UNB.
Schoolboy killed in Laxmipur road crash
LAXMIPUR: A schoolboy was killed as a CNG-run auto rickshaw hit him in Charmohona area in Raipur upazila on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Fahad Hossain, son of Alam Mijhir and a class III student of Abdul Alim Government Primary School.A M M Azizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Raipur Police Station, said the auto-rickshaw knocked Fahad down while he was crossing the road, leaving him dead on the spot. Police arrested driver Belal Hossai, reports UNB.
Doa Mahfil held in Saidpur

A Doa Mahfil and view exchange meeting was held on the occassion of the inauguration work of four roads and drains at the cost of Tk 16 crore under the MGSP project of the World Bank on Friday afternoon at Saidpur Railway Officers Club. The Municipal Council organised a ceremony. Mayor of Saidpur Municipality, Md.Amzad Hossain Sarkar presided over the ceremony. Divisional Superintendent (DS) of Saidpur Railway Workshop Mohammad Qudrat-e Khuda, Saidpur Upazila Parishad Chairman Moksedul Momin, Upazila Vice Chairman Ajmal Hossain, District Council Member Abdul Gafur Sarkar, Major Mizanur Rahman of Saidpur Cantonment, Additional Superintendent of Police Shah Mohammad Azad, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Parimal Kumar Sarkar, Railway’s AEN Siddiqul Alam, Saidpur Press Club President Aminul Haque and others presented their opinion and view regarding the development works of Saidpur Municipality. Maulana Haroon Reyaji conducted the Doa in the inauguration ceremony. The leaders of various political parties, public representatives, businessmen, journalists and well-wishers were present on the occasion.
9 held while giving proxy in PSC exams in Sherpur
SHERPUR: Detectives arrested nine students from a center during Primary School Certificate (PSC) examination in Shribardi upazila while providing proxy for nine examinees on Thursday.The arrestees were identified as Fazlul Haque, Lipi, Sajib, Lavlu, Swapan Miah, Sabuj, Apon, Sabbir Hossain Niloy and Swapan, students of class VI and VII of Herua Balurghat Model School. All of the arrestees secured GPA-5 in their respective PSC examinations in earlier years.They appeared at the examinations in place of Sabbir Ahmed Ritun, Shikha Akter, Mahmudul Hasan palash, Habibur Rahman Habib, Habibur Rahman, Rakib Miah, Shakil Hossain Sabbir, Ferdous Hossain and Selim Hasan. All are the students of class V Herua Balurghat Model School, , reports UNB.

Shribardi upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Khaleda Nasreen said based on secrete information detectives conducted the drive at Shribardi Govt Model Primary School during the exam. As all of the arrestees are children, their respective parents will be fined in connection with the incident while all concerned teachers and officials will also be brought to book, Nasreen added. According to the sources of district police, the school authorities took the attempt in an evil bid to raise the number of the GPA-5 holding students aiming to increase the goodwill of the school. Meanwhile, headmaster Rezaul Karim of the school has fled after the drive, reports UNB.
