4 fishermen held in Laxmipur for netting Hilsa fry
LAXMIPUR: As part of drive to conserve Hilsa fish, the coast guard members detained four fishermen along with 10 mounds of Hilsa fry from Meghna River. The detainees are Md Sadek Hossian, Faruk Hossain, Jakir Hossian and Md Momin Ullah, all of them hailing from Bhola district. The law enforcers, in a drive on Thursday morning, also seized three fishing boats for catching fish fry defying ban, said Sunil Chandra Mazumdar, senior assistant director of district fisheries department. The coast guard and fisheries department said in a bid to boost Hilsha output, the government imposed eight-month ban on catching fish fry, including jatka (Hilsa fry), from November 1 to June 30 in the Meghna River, reports UNB.
10 injured in Magura AL infighting  
MAGURA: At least 10 people were injured in a clash between the activists of Awami League (AL) and its affiliate organisation Swechchasebak League over establishing supremacy at Ghullia village in Mohammadpur upazila on Wednesday night. Police said supporters of Binodpur union parishad chairman and also union AL president Mizapur Rahman Sikdar locked into a clash with the supporters of Mohamamdpur Swechchasebak League president Pikul Sheikh in the evening over trifling matter, leaving 10 people injured. During the clash, 10 houses were looted and ransacked, said Nuruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station.On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, the OC added. Police, however, detained four people from the spot. A case was filed, reports UNB.
Two held with 555 bottles Phensidyl in Rajshahi

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two people with 555 bottles phensidyl in Rajshahi recently. They were arrested in front of Shyampur Government Primary School under Motihar Police station at 7pm on Wednesday. They are identified as Rentu, 35, son of Sultan Sheikh of Charkhidirpur area under Motihar Police Station and Mostakin, 47, son of Uddin of the same area. This information was given in a press release sent to the media from RAB-5. RAB said, on the basis of secret information, it was found that two phensidyl traders were staying in the Shyampur Primary School in Motihar Police Station area. A team led by RAB-5 Major Shibli Mostafa arrested them with 555 bottles of phensidyl and SIM.
2 drug traders held at Benapole  
JESSORE: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two drug traders along with 20 kilograms of hemps from a paddy field in front of Kodlarhat High School at Benapole on Tuesday night. On secrete information, BGB members from Ragunathpur Camp raided here at about 8:30 pm and arrested Md Ziaur Rahman, 40, son of Md Mojibur Rahman and Israfil, 30, son of Abdur Razzak and recovered 20 kilograms of hemps from their possession, said Lt Col Ariful Haque, commanding officer of BGB-49.Later, the arrestees and the seized drugs worth about Tk 70,000 were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station. A case was filed, reports UNB.
Saturia free day observed in Manikganj
MANIKGANJ: Saturia free day was observed in a befitting manner through various programmes on Tuesday as the upazila was liberated from occupation Pakistan army on this day. To mark the day, a discussion was held at Saturia Upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad complex after being brought out a colorful rally. AKM Nurul Huq, Commander of Upazila Freedom Fighters Command Council, presided over the discussion.
On November 21, 1971, the Pakistan occupied forces retreated from Saturia in the face of fierce attack by Muktijoddha. Freedom Fighter AKM Nurul Huq told BSS that on this day the freedom fighters of the areas named “Baten Bahini” attacked the Pak army camp at Saturia Model High School. Then the Pakistan army walked away the camp after being defeated in the fight. One of the freedom fighters named Ziarat Hossain Khan lost his lives in the fight. Freedom fighters took control of the camp which was established on August 15, 1971. From the camp, Pak Army conducted operations in different areas. The occupied forces killed at least 32 freedom fighters including 3 women and buried them in a mass grave yard behind the camp. The freedom fighters demanded to the government to build a memorial on the mass grave yard.Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nahida Farzana Siddique was present in the function as the chief guest.M Momin Uddin Khan, deputy commander of Manikganj district Freedom Fighters Command Council, Hasmat Ali, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) and Freedom Fighters Hasan Ali, Rabiul Islam, Sohel Rana Haydar, Abdur Razzaque and M Shariful Islam, among others, spoke on the occasion, reports BSS.
