Turkey orders detention of 216 in post-coup probe

Turkish authorities have issued detention warrants for 216 people, including former finance ministry personnel, suspected of having links to last year’s failed coup attempt, the state-run Anadolu news agency said on Wednesday.
It said 17 former finance ministry personnel had been detained so far and another 65 were sought over alleged links to Gulen’s network, Anadolu said.

Air China suspends flights to North Korea

Air China has suspended flights to North Korea, further limiting the secretive state’s links with the outside world, in what the government said was a business decision with no political motives.
The suspension comes shortly after US President Donald Trump visited Beijing and pressed his counterpart Xi Jinping to do more to rein in North Korea’s nuclear program.

Three dead in rare shooting in China

Three people were shot dead and six others wounded in a rare episode of gun violence in China, police said Wednesday, adding they were hunting for a number of suspects.
Officers were deployed after receiving reports that people were hit by apparent gun fire during a fight on Tuesday night in Chaozhou city, in southern Guangdong province.

Tripura journalist shot dead by trooper

A journalist has been gunned down by a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) trooper during an altercation in western Tripura, raising political tensions and triggering widespread anger.
TSR Second Battalion Rifleman Nandu Kumar Reang opened fire from his AK-47 assault rifle, killing Sudip Datta Bhowmik, 50, in Bodhjung Nagar on Tuesday, a police official said.
Reang was the bodyguard of Second Battalion Commandant Tapan Debbarma.
The slain journalist went to meet Debbarma at the battalion headquarters some 25 km north of here.
Police arrested the TSR trooper. Senior police officials including Inspector General of Police KV Sreejesh, Inspector General of Police GS Rao and Deputy Inspector General of Police Arindam Nath rushed to the spot.
The body of Bhowmik, a reporter with “Syandan Patrika” and television channel “Vanguard”, was brought to the Gobind Ballav Pant Medical College and Hospital here.
