Eyes of college student gouged out in Babuganj

Eyes of a college student gouged out in Babuganj upazila of Barisal on Thursday afternoon. The victim was identified as Rakib Hossain, 18, HSC first-year student of Babuganj Degree College and son of Md. Selim alias Langra Selim, from Baherchar village under Babuganj upazila of Barisal. The victim was rushed to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital after recovery at about 4:00 PM Thursday. Dr. Amitav Biswas, emergency medical officer of the SBMCH, informed the critically injured victim with one gouged out and other severely injured eyes immediately admitted at eye-unit of the hospital. Dr. Mokhlesur Rahman, assistant register of the unit said, the unconscious patient referred and sent to Dhaka in evening for better treatment after giving first aid and both of his eyes may be damaged fully. Father of the victim said local people recovered hands-legs tied Rakib from near Khoyratir Khal and informed guardians at about 3:00 PM. He assumed the incident as a revenge of old rivalry. Sub Inspector Jafar Khan of Babuganj police station said one youth named as Rafik was injured by chopping in the area on Wednesday night and the incident of gouging eyes of Rakib may be linked with that incident. However police started investigation and will interrogate the victim after his condition will become stable, the police officer told.

Udichi confce held in Thakurgaon

Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Gosthi Pirganj Upazila unit conference was held at Pirganj Pilot High School Shaheed Minar premises in Thakurgaon district on Friday.A vibrant cultural function and a discussion featured in the programme.Locally renowned artiste Mozibar Rahman inaugurated the event as guest. A colourful procession was brought out from Pirganj Pilot High School’s Shaheed Minar premises and ended at the inaugural point after making its way on different streets in the upazila headquarters. A discussion was held at the same event with the participation of several socio-cultural and reputed organisations of the district. Vice-President of Central Committee of Udichi Rezaur Rahman Reju spoke at the programme as chief guest, with upazila unit president of Udichi, Dipendranath Roy in the chair. Among others, district unit president of Udichi Setara Begum, General Secretary Rezwanul Haque Reju, Cultural Secretary Shuchorita Dev, addressed the gathering. A vibrant cultural function followed which included recitations and renditions of gono sangeet rendered by artistes of Pirganj unit of Udichi. Prior to the cultural programme, Upazila Nirbahi Officer ABM Iftekhar Islam Khandakar, Pirganj Press club President Md. Meher Elahi distributed crests to Rafiqul Islam (dead ), Abul Kalam (dead), Md. Mazibar Rahman, Abul Hossein and Zagadish Chandra Das for their contributions to local cultural arena. The conference also formed a 25-member new upazila body of Udichi.
