23 held in Joypurhat over violence
JOYPURHAT: Police in an overnight drive arrested 23 people from five upazilas of the district early Thursday in connection with anarchy and violence. Hamidul Alam, superintendent of police of Joypurhat, said police in separate drives from Wednesday late night to Thursday early morning arrested nine people from Sadar uapzila, seven from Panchbibi upazila, three from Khetlal upazila, three from Akkelpur upazila and one from Kalai uapzila.Police also said the arrestees for creating anarchy and carrying out violence in the upazilas, reports UNB.
BNP’s black flag procession in Barisal

 Barisal district and city BNP and its front organizations held black flag rally in front of their party office at Ashwini Kumar Hall premises in the city on Wednesday noon to protest the “fraudulent elections of January 5.”However police barred them from hold pre-announced black flag demonstration on roads after ending the 2-hour long rally peacefully.Advocate Mojibor Rahman Sarwar, central organizing secretary, city BNP president and former lawmaker presided over the rally under hard police cordoning. It was addressed among others by Mezbahuddin Farhad former lawmaker, and Akan Kuddusur Rahman, president and secretary , district (north) and Ebaedul Huq Chan, district(south) convener, Maniruzzaman Faruk, vice prsident, Advocate Kamrul Hasan Shahin, secretary, Ziauddin Shikdar Zia, joint secretary of the city, Enayet Hossain Bachchu, Kotwali president of BNP. The speakers terming the day “democracy killing day,” demanded
cancellation of the January-5 election and holding immediate free fair fresh election under non-party caretaker government to continue democratic trend in the country.
 Palli Biddut driver found dead in Benapole
BENAPOLE (JESSORE): Police recovered throat-slit body of a driver of local Palli Bidyut Samity office from the Benapole-Jessore Highway in Malanchi area of Benapole on Wednesday night. The deceased was identified as Masud Hossain, 45, a driver of Jhikargacha Palli Bidyut Samity office.Kotwali Police Station officer-in-charge Emdad Hossain said Masud got down from his vehicle near an abandoned hosiery factory in the area around 9:00pm after getting someone’s call on the cell phone while he along with his colleague was going to Jessore town. Getting no response, his colleague with the help of locals entered the factory and found the body of Masud with the throat slashed and informed police.The body was recovered and sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. A case was filed in this connection, reports UNB.
