Nirapad Sarok Dibosh observed in Lakshmipur
LAKSHMIPUR: The Jatiya Nirapad Sarok Dibosh-2017 was observed in the district town today with the slogan ‘Shabdhanay Gari Chalabo, Nirapoda Bari Firbo’. District administration and BRTA jointly organized a rally and a discussion meeting that was held at the Seminar Room of the Deputy Commissioner Office this morning. Additional Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Murshidul Islam presided over the meeting while District Commissioner Humaira Begum, Additional Police Super Onirban Chakma, Assistant manager of BRTA Anowar Hossein were present. The rally which started at Upazila Parishad paraded different streets in the town, reports BSS.
Dhaka’s rail link with north-south restored
PABNA: Rail communication between Dhaka and north-south districts has been restored after a four-hour of disruption as rain water washed away soil beneath a rail bridge in Chatmohor upazila on Sunday morning. “The rail link was restored around 11:30 pm after a rescue team from Ishwardi repaired the damaged area under the bridge,” said Masud Ali, station master of Chatmohor railway station. Earlier, rail link of Dhaka with northern and southern districts has been halted around 7:30 am after locals spotted a large pit beneath the rail bridge No 21 in Guakhara area on Dhaka-Rangpur rail route and informed the nearby railway station. The incident was noticed sometime before Rangpur Express, a Rangpur-bound mail train from Dhaka, is scheduled to cross the bridge around 7:45 am, said the station master. Being informed by locals, the railway authorities stopped the journey of Rangpur Express train in two kilometers away from the spot, preventing an imminent train accident, he added, reports UNB.
Seminar on National Social Security Strategy held
FARIDPUR: An orientation seminar titled “National Social Security Strategy (NSSS) for UNO” was held at Deputy Commissioner Office of the district yesterday. The programme was organized by Faridpur District Administration. Cabinet Division Secretary (Administration and Reforms) N M Zeaul Alam was present as the chief guest. The speakers said, all the poor and marginal people should be brought under social safety network and all the UNOs in the country can play a vital role in this regard. Presided by Divisional Cabinet Joint Secretary Mohammad Munir the seminar addressed by joint secretary Md Saidur, Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Ommey Salma Tanzia and among others. All the Deputy Commissioners and UNOs from greater Faridpur attended in the seminar, reports BSS.
4 Jamaat men held in Satkhira
SATKHIRA: Police arrested four activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from Harivanga village in Ashasuni upazila on early Sunday. The arrestees were identified as Afsar Uddin, son of late Jonab Ali, Nazrul Gazi son of Nazar Uddin Gazi, Ismail Sarder son of Babar Ali Sarder and Abdur Rahman, son of Imad Ali. Tipped off that a group of Jamaat leaders and activists were holding a concealed meeting at Harivanga village, a police team conducted a drive there and arrested the four Jamaat men while the others fled scene, said sub-inspector Abdur Razzak of Ashasuni Police Station. The law enforcers also recovered jehadi books and leaflets from the spot, the SI added, reports UNB.
14 received Livestock Award
RAJSHAHI: Fourteen people here yesterday received “Livestock Award-2017” for their outstanding contribution to the development of livestock sector in the country. They received the award at a function titled “Third Livestock Award, Seminar and Livestock-Poultry Fair-2017” held at Rajshahi Medical College auditorium. Bangladesh Livestock Society (BLS) hosted the function with the main thrust of devising ways and means on how to expedite the promotional activities of the promising sector. State Minister for Fisheries and Animal Resources Narayan Chandra Chanda addressed the ceremony as the chief guest besides handing over the awards, reports BSS.
