JUST unit BCL secy expelled, case filed against party leaders

The authority of Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST) expelled seven leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League including SM Shamim Hasan, general secretary on charge of carrying out violence on the campus of the politics prohibited university. The authority of JUST took the decision at a meeting of reregent board of the university on Saturday. The students who were expelled from the university are – SM Shamim Hasan, university unit general secretary of BCL and also student of genetic engineering and bio-technology, Biplob Kumar Dey of the same department, Tanvir Faisal of environment science and technology, Al- Mamun Simon of physical study and sports science, Masudur Rahman Roni of the same department, and Tanvir Ahmed Tanin and Ashik Khandaker of petroleum and mining department. Abdur Rashid, public relations officer of the university stated the information in a press release. The press release also said a probe body was formed to investigate into the incident and final steps will be taken on the basis of the report. Details were informed in the press release.
Two detained with huge foreign currencies
Benapole customs personnel arrested a Bangladeshi passport holder along with Rs 681,000 and US$221 while he was entering into Bangladesh through Benapole frontier on Saturday, customs sources said. The arrested is Yeakub Ali Mina, 40 of Nawkhanda village under Moksedpur upazila in Gopalgonj district bearing passport number BP – 065711. Marufur Rahman, deputy commissioner, Benapole customs told that tipped off the customs men detained the man along with the currencies at around 9:30am on Saturday. A case was lodged with Benapole port police station in this connection.
Minor girl violated in Sherpur
SHERPUR: A class three girl was violated allegedly by a man at Dashkahniya village in Charsherpur union of Sadar upazila on Friday afternoon. Victim’s mother said that Jasim Uddin, a resident of the same village who is a father of two children chased the 11-year girl while she was returning from a local market in the afternoon and he forcibly took her in a paddy field. Later, he raped her. After being rescued by locals, the victim was taken to her house. As her condition deteriorated, she was admitted to Sherpur Sadar Hospital.A case was filed at night against Jasim, reports UNB.
Drug peddler held in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged drug peddler along with 5 kg of heroin from Sarengpur in Godagari upazila here on Sunday. Tipped off, a team of Rab-5 conducted a drive in the area and arrested Sazeman Sheikh, 37, son of Alauddin Sheikh of Hakimpur village under Chapainawabgonj district with the drugs worth about Taka five crore at around 5.30 pm, said RAB.They also recovered two mobile phone sets, four SIM cards and some cash from his possession. A case was filed with the police station concerned, reports BSS.
Boat race held in Jamalpur
JAMALPUR: A boat race was held at Shyampur Amlitola ferryghat in the river Brahmaputra in Melandaha upazila of the district recently . State Minister for Textiles and Jute Mirza Azam witnessed the boat race and distributed prizes among the winners as chief guest. Additional Inspector General of Police (Admin and Operation) Mokhlesur Rahman inaugurated the boat race.Addressing a function on the occasion, the state minister said the present government has been implementing a massive development programme across the country. He said the people are enjoying the benefits of the development programme.He called upon the people to reelect Awami League to continue the development works.Melandaha Upazila Awami League Vice President Abu Taher presided over the meeting. The meeting was addressed, among others, by Faridul Haque Khan Dulal, MP, and chairman of Jamalpur Zila Parishad, Faruk Ahmed Chowdhury, reports BSS.
