Benapole Customs held two Indian women, seize currencies

Two Indian nationals -Jobaida, 50 and Reshma Shiekh, 42 daughters of Abdur Rashid, bearing passports P- 0325180 and M-7004254 respectively, were detained by the Benapole customs on Tuesday morning. Of the duo Jobaida is wife of Abdul Sheikh of Naranpur village of 24 Parnagas and Reshma is wife of Kashinath of the same area in the West Bengal, India. Dipa Rani Halder, assistant commissioner, Benapole customs told that tipped off the Benapole customs detained the duo along with Tk 167,1,500 Indian Rs 810 while they were entering into Bangladesh bearing Indian passports. ‘The money could be laundered to Bangladesh,’ she added. The Indian nationals, however, told journalists that they came to Bangladesh to give the said amount of money to his father after selling a piece of land property. ‘Our father lives in Mongla port,’ they added.
5 shops fined in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: The regional office of Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI) fined a total of 15 shop-owners Taka 72,500 for selling and manufacturing adulterated food items in last month in the region. BSTI in association with respective district administration conducted 19 mobile courts and found selling of substandard and unhygienic food items violating BSTI rules and regulations. The court also realized Taka 72,500 from the shop owners during the drive. Altab Hossain, Director of BSTI, said the regional office has stepped up its drives against the manufacturer of substandard and adulterated food items, adding such drives will continue in the days to come for the greater interest of the people. The BSTI regional office also conducted 25 surveillance/squad drives for prevention of pilferage in weight and measurement and using of formalin in fruit and fish, the official added, reports BSS.
Plantation programme taken by Rampal UZ Krishak League

Rampal Upazilla Krishak League has taken massive tree plantation programme in Rampal. Acting President of Krishak League Ekhlasur Rahman said , they have taken decision to plant tree in 90 wards of ten Union Parishad in Rampal. The programme will be opened at 11 a.m on tomorrow . MP of Rampal-Mongla Constituency Alhaj Talukder Abdul Khaleq will inaugurate this program from Ujolkur Union Parishad. In the meantime , sapling of trees and bamboo made cage have been supplied to every ward of the unions. To make the programme a success , central member of Bangladesh Krishak League and Agricutural and Co-operative Affairs Secretary of Khulna Mahanar Krishak League Samal Singha Roy shared the programme and conducted meeting in every Union Parishar assembling the members of Upazilla Krisahk League.
2 killed in Bagerhat road mishaps

A young man (21) was killed on the spot and 4 others were seriously injured when a Nasiman (a 3 wheeled mechanized) van was dashed by a speeding passengers bus on Khulna-Mongla Highway near at Sonatunia bus stand under Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat district on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Sagor Mondol, s student of 1st year Honours Class of Khulna Govt. B L College and son of one Krisna Mandol hails from the village Bidyarbahar under Rampal Upazila. The injured persons are Shib Mandol (20), Banalata (45), Ivi Mandol (24) and Ratna hail from Rampal Upazila. Locals and the police said that in the afternoon Nasiman, carrying passengers was going from else where to Rampal and when it reached the place of occurrence it was dashed violently from its behind by the passenger bus that was going from Khulna to Mongla. As a result, all the passengers of Nasima were thrown out on the highway and at the same time college student Sagor Mondol was crushed under the wheels of the killer bus. Consequently, he expired instantly.

The injured persons were admitted to Khulna Medical Hospital for their treatment while the dead body was sent to Bagerhat morgue for its autopsy. Following the incident the locals were agitated, caught the driver of the killer bus and handed him over to the police.
Another report states that a motor cyclist named Abdur Rashid Molla (50) was killed and 2 co-riders were seriously injured when they were run over by a pickup on Khulna-Bagerhat Highway near at Chunakhola bailey bridge under Sadar Upazila in Bagerhat district on Tuesday in the morning.
