An excellent opening stand of 117 runs by skipper Mithali Raj and Poonam Raut steered India Women’s team to beat West Indies Eves Team by 9 wickets in a Group-B match of the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 at Sylhet Stadium on Tuesday.
Replying to West Indies 117 for 7, India reached their target making 121 runs for 1 in 17.4 overs.
In the opening stand, Poonam Raut pairing with Mithali Raj made the match winning partnership in 16.1 overs before Poonam was caught by Kyshona A Knight off a Selman delivery.
Poonam Raut scored 56 runs off 52 balls featuring seven fours and was adjudged player of the match.
Mithali Raj added unbeaten 55 runs facing 52 balls with six boundaries.
One down Smriti Mandhana made not out run-a-ball 4 with a boundary.
Shakera Selman claimed the lone wicket conceding 21 runs in 3 overs.
Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, West Indies posted 117 runs for 7 wickets in stipulated 20 overs.
West Indies losing their opener Kycia Knight (0) in her and also the innings very first delivery; in the 2nd wicket stand, Deandra Dottin pairing with skipper Stafanie Taylor made 61 runs in 11 overs to repair the initial jolt.
One down Deandra Dottin scored 57 runs off 51 balls featuring seven boundaries and two over boundaries and was caught by Karu Jain off a Jhulan Goswami delivery.
Stafanie Taylor added 17 runs off 26 balls with a four while Stacy-Ann King (16) and Shemaine Campbelle (10) were the other two digit scorer for West Indies.
Harmanpreet Kaur claimed two wickets for 12 runs in 3 overs while Shubhlakshmi Sharma, Jhulan Goswami, Archana Das and Poonam Yadav took one wicket each conceding 14, 17, 18 and 20 runs respectively.
