Shibir leader arrested with firearm in Chapainawabganj

CHAPAINAWABGANJ : Detective Branch (DB) of police in a dive arrested a leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, with a pistol and bullet from Hujrapur Khalghat area of the district town yesterday morning. The arrested was identified as Jakaria, publicity secretary of Islami Chhatra Shibir, district unit. On a tip-off, a team of DB police conducted the drive in the area and arrested Jakaria with the pistol and bullet, a DB official said. 20 cases were pending against him, he said, reports BSS.

Workshop on safety net programmes in Mymensingh today

MYMENSINGH : A workshop organised by the Cabinet Division on social safety networks for poverty alleviation will be held here today.The objective of the workshop is to successfully implement the ongoing social safety network programmes by field level officers and speed up its activities. Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam will inaugurate the workshop as the chief guest at a local hotel in the morning. Mymensingh Divisional Commissioner GM Saleh Uddin informed journalists about the workshop at a press conference held at his office this morning. Additional secretaries and joint secretaries of 14 ministries concerned, some 124 field level officers of the division and public representatives will participate in the work shop, he added. Additional Divisional Commissioner Md Muzammel Haque and Deputy Director of Local Government Engineering Department Harun or Rashid were present at the press conference, reports BSS.

Kumari Puja celebrated in Rangpur

RANGPUR : The Hindu community people today celebrated the Kumari Puja on the Mohadashami through worshiping Goddess Durga with due religious fervor, gaiety and festivity in the district. The Hindu community people of all ages, including young girls and women, attired in traditional dresses thronged Mahiganj Ramakrishna Ashram in festive moods to observe Kumari Puja. President of the district unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad (BPUP) Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmick said Goddess Durga is worshipped in various forms including `Kumari’, a pure-hearted girl and the virgin form of the deity, reports BSS.
