7 pharmacies fined in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI,:A mobile court in the city fined seven pharmacies Taka 38,000 last night.
The mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Ashraf Ahmed Russel conducted drives in different areas of the metropolis and found seven pharmacies guilty of various irregularities like selling of date expired medicine and trading business illegally. Subsequently, the court fined them Taka 38,000. The mobile court also asked various other medicine shops not to operate their business without license.Meanwhile, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 2.3 kilograms of heroin from Hatpara Boat Ghat under Godagari Upazila of the district last night. However, none could be arrested in this connection, BGB sources said, reports BSS.

11 Shibir men held in SUST

Police arrested eleven Shibir men for their alleged involvement in vandalism on the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology campus on Monday. In this regard, two cases were also filed against 300 leaders and activists of Shibir on Sunday night. Earlier on Sunday, a number of Shibir activists vandalised 13 university transports and ransacked windowpanes of the registrar building. They also exploded 25 crude bombs that injured at least 10 people, including two cops, the campus sources said.

Farmer found dead in Narsingdi

Police recovered the body of a farmer from Char Amlab village in Belabo upazila of the district on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Nazim Uddin, 25, son of Islam Uddin, of the village.Quoting family members of the deceased, Belabo Police Station officer-in-charge Badrul Alam Khan said someone called Nazim out of his house over mobile phone around 10:00pm on Tuesday and since then he had remained missing.
Later, locals spotted his body lying on a cropland around 7:00am on Wednesday and informed police.The body was recovered and sent to the district hospital morgue for an autopsy.Miscreants might have killed Nazim by strangulating, the OC suspected.

Sewing machines distributed in Chapainawabganj

Chapainawabganj sadar upazila parishad distributed 10 sewing machines among destitute women of Chapainawabganj municipality and Baliadanga, Jhilim, Baroghoria and Islampur unions under sadar upazila on Monday.Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Dr. Chitralekha Nazneen distributed the sewing machines as chief guest. Among others, upazila vice chairman Shantana Hoque, upazila agriculture officer Dr. M. Azizur Rahman and upazila statistics officer Mahmuda Khatun were also present on the occasion at the upazila parishad premises.The UNO said, the sewing machines were distributed with a view to developing the socio-economic condition of the destitute women.

Old woman killed in road mishap
An old woman was killed as she was hit by a Sonamasjid bound truck at Rasulpur area on the Chapainawabganj-Sonamasjid highway under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district on Monday afternoon.The deceased was identified as Anwari Begum, 70, wife of Mokbul Hossain of Atrashia village under the same upazila.Officer in charge of Shibganj thana Mizanur Rahman said, as she was crossing the road, a speedy truck hit her injuring her seriously at around 2 pm. She died on the way to the Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital.
