Tropical Storm Harvey lashed central Texas with torrential rains on Sunday, raising fears of “catastrophic” flooding after the megastorm-the most powerful to hit the United States since 2005 — left a deadly trail of devastation along the Gulf Coast. The storm has caused at least two deaths since making landfall late Friday as a Category Four hurricane, pummeling the town of Rockport outside Corpus Christi with sustained winds of 130 miles (215 kilometers) per hour, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said.
Indian guru faces up to life in prison in rape case

Thousands of supporters of an Indian quasi-religious sect leader left his headquarters in northern India on Sunday as authorities relaxed a curfew a day ahead of his sentencing for rape. They responded to an appeal by authorities to go home after thousands of followers protested the guru’s rape conviction with violence that left at least 36 people dead in Panchkula and Sirsa towns in Haryana state on Friday. The guru faces seven years to life in prison.
Polish PM slams Macron’s criticism

Poland’s prime minister on Friday blasted as “arrogant” French President Emmanuel Macron’s criticism of her right-wing government, suggesting he lacked political experience. “Perhaps his (Macron’s) arrogant comments result from lack of political experience, which I can understand, but I expect that he will make up for this shortcoming and will be more restrained in the future,” Beata Szydlo told the right-wing wPolityce.pl news website.
US reporter killed covering S Sudan clashes

An American journalist has been killed while covering clashes between government and rebel forces in restive South Sudan, local officials and the US mission in Juba said on Sunday.
Christopher Allen, a freelance reporter and photographer, was embedded with insurgent troops when fighting broke out in Kaya, near South Sudan’s southern border with Uganda.
