Newly- appointed Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed said that he would work tirelessly to take the university at the top ranking position across the country again. He said this on Tuesday afternoon at his office at a view exchange meeting with Shahjalal University Press Club, platform of journalists of the university. The university held top ranking position in research areas across the country few years ago. I will work diligently taking all teachers, students and employees to regain the position again, the VC said. He also said, I have got an opportunity to play a role to improve the qualities of education and researchers. So, i am hopeful that I will be able to do it. No compromise with corruption and corrupted person, he added. He seeks help from teachers, students, employees and journalists to run the university peacefully. President of the club Abullah Al Monsur and Secretary Faijullah Wasif were, among others, present.
Most wanted criminal held in Sylhet
Police arrested Most wanted criminal ,former leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) from Chowkidekhi area of the city on Sunday night. The arrestee was identified as Nabil Raja, son of Farhad Raza Chowdhury and a former assistant-organising secretary of Sylhet city unit of JCD. Jedan Al Musa, additional deputy commissioner (media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP), said that on secret information a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Most wanted criminal Nabil around 12:00 am. Nabil was accused in several cases including rape, extortion, said the SMP official.
One held with 925 pieces Yaba tablets in Chandpur

Police arrested one person with 925 pieces of Yaba tablets and eight bottles of Phensidyl syrup from Digchail road area under Hagiganj Upazila of the district on Tuesday night. The arrested was identified as Akter Hossain Jony, 28, son Abul Hossain, a resident of Mokidabad Gazi Bari area. On secret information, a team police conducted a drive at the area around 11.45pm and arrested Akter Hossain Jony with the drugs said officer-in-charge (OC) of Hagiganj Thana police Jabadul Islam. He is a professional drug trader. A case was filed in this connection.
Press briefing of RAB-6 held

A press briefing of RAB-6 was held at Mir Julfiquer Ali Lulu Auditorium of Bagerhat Press Club on Saturday night on the rehabilitation of 132 pirates and forest robbers who surrendered a years ago to lead a normal life. CEO of RAB-6 Khondokar Rofiqul Islam informed the journalists . He informed that 132 forest robbers and pirates of 12 Groups of Sundarban surrendered to RAB dreaming of a normal life. For the first step of rehabilitation of the robbers , every robbers will get one lakh taka each from the relief fund of Prime Minister. Home Minister Asadujjaman Khan Kamal is supposed to visit Bagerhat on 23 August and handed over the cheque among the robbers. He also informed that govt. has plan to employ their family members. At this time SP of Bagerhat Pankaj Chandra Roy, Operation Officer of RAB-6 Md. Jahid Hossain, Press Club President Ahad Uddin Haider, Press Club Secretary (Acting) Azmal Hossain, Adv. Saha Alam Tuku, Nihar Ranjan Saha, Md. Delwar Hossain, Ahsanul Karim, Prof. Mahfujur Rahman, Swakat Ali Babu, Israt Jahan and other journalists were also present at that time.
