One killed, two injured as van collided with tempo in Bakerganj of Barisal on Saturday noon. Azizur Rahman, officer in charge of Bakerganj police station, said the spot-dead victim was identified as Robin Haoladar, local Chowkidar (member of local defense police) and son of Delwar Haoladar of Patkati village of the upazila.The injured two were Habibur Rahman, member of Durgapasa union parishad and Abdur Rashid, the van puller. Body of the victim sent to Barisal SBMCH morgue for autopsy and injured two admitted at local hospital. The collision was occurred when both of the vehicles ride on a concrete bridge connecting Durgapur and Faridpur UP of the upazila, police sources added.
Discussion on role of media held
A discussion meeting on role of media in preventing corruption held on Saturday at BDS auditorium of the city. Conscious Citizen Committee (CCC), local associate of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), organized the programme presided over by Principal Gazi Zahid Hossain, president CCC Barisal. Firoj Uddin, programme manager, delivered welcome address and Manirul Islam, area manager of TIB, conducted the programme, while CCC member daily Prothom Alo correspondent Saifur Rahman Miron, presented power point presentation. Manabendra Batobayal, daily Sangbad correspondent and former president of Barisal Press Club, Prof. Syed Moazzem Hossain, CCC member, Khandokar Monirul Alam Swapan, Murad Ahmed, Giasuddin Suman, Shahina Azmin, Rahat Khan, Jewel Sarkar, Khan Rafik, Shamim Ahsan, journalists, participated in the discussion.
Kotchandpur JL leader arrested

The detective branch (DB) police of Dhaka city have arrested the general secretary of Kotchandpur Poura Juba Leage Shaikh Sohel Arman. He was arrested from Kotchandpur town on Friday night. The police also seized a private car from his possession, confirmed Jhenaidah BD police officer in charge Daud Hossain. Quoting the version of Kotchandpur Poura Juba League, the DB man said, Sohel was arrested from the town with a private car during the night for his suspected activities in thefting the car. Kotchandpur Poura Juba League convener Sabjal Mandal said, they were not known about reason behind arresting the Juba League leader. Locals said, Sohel purchased a private car from some Selim of Kashipur village of Kaliganj that was changed to white in colour. Earlier Selim purchased the same from Kotchandpur municipal councilor Rezaul Pathan. When contacted, officer in charge of Kotchandpur police station Biplab Kumar Saha said, they were not aware of the matter, although they were informed by the locals and a number of political people about arresting Poura Juba League general secretary Shaikh Sohel Arman.
Weeklong tree fair begins in Netrakona
NETRAKONA: A week long tree fair-2017 began on old collectorate office premises here on Friday evening amid festivity. District administration, district agriculture extension department and district forest department jointly organized the fair.Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr. Musfiqur Rahman formally inaugurated the fair with a call to plant more fruit-bearing, timber and medicinal trees for making the “countrywide tree plantation programme-2017” of the government successful. He said there is no alternative to plant trees for keeping ecological balance in the country. A total of 60 stalls were set up at the fair displaying saplings of different fruit-bearing, timber and herbal trees, reports BSS.
