38 BNP men charge sheeted in Shabnur’s father’s killing

The police submitted a charge- sheet against 38 leaders and activists of the BNP in the Bangla film actor Shabnur’s father murder case. South Surma police station Officer-in-Charge Md Murshalin submitted the charge sheet with the court of Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate on Saturday. Murshalin told that ‘We have submitted a charge sheet against 38 BNP men, including Joint Convener of district BNP Advocate Shamsuzzaman Zaman, Joint Secretary Ajmal Bakht and district Chhatra Dal General Secretary Shakil Morshed.’ ‘We have dropped the names of three persons, including missing BNP leader Ilias Ali, from the charge sheet.’ According to the case statement, some unidentified miscreants set a passenger bus ablaze on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in December 18, 2011, leaving Kazi Naser, father of actor Shabnur, killed. Later, Surma police station Sub Inspector Harun Majumder filed a case accusing 22 persons. Investigation Officer SI Sohel Rana said: ‘We have found the involvement of 38 BNP men after the investigation. The police have made 35 people as witnesses of the case.’
8 shops gutted in Shariatpur
SHARIATPUR: At least eight shops were gutted in a fire that broke out at Rajganj Bazar in Sadar upazila of the district in the early hours of Friday. Fire Service and Civil Defense sources said the fire originated from a cooking oven of a hotel in the area at about 5 am and soon engulfed other shops around.Being informed, firefighters from Shariatpur rushed to the spot and put down the blaze after 40 minutes effort, reports BSS.
World Breastfeeding Week observed in Pirganj

World Breastfeeding Week-2014 was observed here on Thursday with the theme ‘Breastfeeding: A Winning Goal for Life’. Pirganj upazila health complex and ESDO coms(a NGO) jointly organised a colourful procession and discussion meeting on the occasion. The procession that started from the upazila health complex ended at the same venue after parading the main roads of the town. A discussion meeting was also held at the conference room of the upazila health complex with the Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Abdul Mazid in the chair. Among others, Junior consultant (Gynae) Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Medical Officer Dr. Zannatul Rayhan, ESDO coms Manager Samsujoha, New Nation Thakurgaon district correspondent and Pirganj Press club joint secretary Md. Mokaddes Hayat Milon, Nursing supervisor Shahana Begam, Nurse Nazma Begam and Nasring Begam spoke on the occasion. The speakers called for creating social awareness to inspire the mothers to ensure optimal breastfeeding that reduces infant mortality rate.
Two Shibir activists arrested in Barisal

Barisal police arrested two activists of Islami Chhhatra Shibir, student front of Jamaat-e- Islami Bangladesh, from Battala area of the city on Sunday noon. The arrested two were identified as Jalaluddin and Fariduddin, workers of Barisal city ICS. Matiar Rahman, Kotwali police station officer in charge (investigation), said those two ICS activists were arrested when police disbursed Shibir activists trying to make sabotage and bring out procession in Battala area protesting arrest of their central leader in Dhaka. On other hand police also arrested one drug peddler named Shuvo Talukdar, 26, son of Faruk Talukdar, with 500 pieces of Yaba tablets from Manasha Bari area o under Kawnia police station of the city on early Sunday, said Vashkar Saha, assistant commissioner of detective branch in Barisal Metropolitan Police.
