BDRCS, Islami Bank conduct relief operations in Netrakona
NETRAKONA: The district unit of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) and Netrakona branch of Islami Bank conducted relief operations in the flash flood-hit Haor areas of Mohangnaj, Modan, Khaliajury and Kalmakanda upazilas of the district during the last two days. The BDRCS sources said here today, a relief team of Netrakona Red Crescent Society distributed Taka 32 lakh among the 800 flood-hit families of the aforesaid Haor areas of the district Thursday. Vice-president of the BDRCS Netrakona district unit Bazlul Kader Shahjahan and general secretary Gazi Muzammel Haque Tuku led the relief team. A team of the Islamic Bank of Netrakona branch also distributed Taka 7,50,000 in cash and food worth about Taka 30 lakh among the 1500 flood-affected poor families in the Haor areas of the district. Vice-president of the Islamic Bank Mymensingh zone Abu Sayed Mohhammad Idris and manager of the Islamic Bank of Netrakona branch Ruhul Amin and other bank officials conducted the relief operation, reports BSS.
BGB arrests a man with Tk 4.5 lakhs
JESSORE: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a suspected hundi trader with Tk 4.5 lakhs at Putkhali Mosjidbari area on Thursday evening. The arrested was identified as Firoz Ahmed, 19, son of Abdul Lotif, a resident of Putkhali area of Sharsha Upazila. Subedar Abul Hossain, company commander of Putkhali Camp, said BGB men conducted a drive at Putkhali acting on secret information that Firoz Mahmud was smuggling huge amount of money through hundi. During the drive, the BGB members arrested Firoz from Putkhali Mosjidbari area and recovered the money after searching his body, reports UNB.
Aman cultivation going on in full swing
PANCHAGARH: Farmers of five upzilas of the district are passing busy time in cultivating Aman paddy with great enthusiasm. Paddy growers are hoping that they would be able to get bumper yield of the paddy as they have received agri-inputs, including seeds and fertilizer, in due time from Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE). Cultivators of the district have recently finished harvest of Boro paddy and they also got excellent yield of the paddy. According to Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), about 81,000 hectares of land have been brought under Aman cultivation in the district this year with the production target of 3,22,000 tonnes of the food grains, reports BSS.
Whip Gini distributes relief to flood victims in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA: Whip of the Jatiya Sangshad and local lawmaker Mahabub Ara Begum Gini distributed relief materials and cash to the flood affected people of Mollarchar union of Sadar upazila of the district on Thursday. To mitigate sufferings caused by current flood, whip Mahabub Ara Begum Gini went to Mollarchar union on Thursday and distributed relief materials and cash to the flood victims. The relief materials included 100 packets of dry food , 20 kid boxes and 50 pieces of jerkin and Taka 50,000. Apart from this, a medical team was formed by health department here and also gave necessary medicines including oral saline to the flood affected people who were suffering from various diseases due to flood, reports BSS.
One held with 200 Yaba pills, bullets
MAGURA: A drug peddler was arrested along with 200 pieces of Yaba tablets and two rifle bullets in Animal Hospital area of the district town on Thursday night. The detainee was identified as Maniruzzaman alias Buro, 50, a resident of Chayabithi Road. Officer-in-charge of Magura police station Elias Hossain said Maniruzzaman has long been involved in illicit drug selling, and police in a drive on Thursday night detained him from his house with 200 pieces of Yaba tablets and two rifle bullets. A case was filed in this connection, reports UNB.
