Worker electrocuted in Jessore
JESSORE: A worker died after being electrocuted at Dighirpar Taltola under Manirumpur upazila of the district yesterday. The deceased was identified as Abdul Awal, 30, son of Munshi Abed Ali Sarder, a resident of Dighirpar village of the upazila.According to local people and police, Awal sustained critical injuries at 8:00 am when he came in contact with live electric wire while doing construction work at the house of Moslem Ali. He was taken to Jessore 250-bed Hospital where physician declared him dead, reports UNB.
325 Panchagarh houses get electricity connections
PANCHAGARH: About 325 houses of Daduarhat village under Debiganj upazila of the district were brought under rural electrification network by Panchagarh Palli Bidyut Samity (PPBS) on Saturday evening.A simple function was also held on the premises of Sahidulla High School of the village on the occasion.Adv Nurul Islam Sujon MP formally inaugurated the electrification programme as the chief guest. Headmaster of the school Shyamol Kumar presided over the function. It was addressed, among others, by Debiganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Hasnat Zaman Chowdhury, Upazila Awami League President A.S.M. Nuruzzaman and assistant general manager of PPBS Abdur Rashid, reports BSS.
Smart cards distribution begins
KHULNA: The Election Commission started the distribution of smart national identity cards in Khulna city yesterday. Election Commissioner Kabita Khanam inaugurated the distribution at a function as the chief guest at the conference room of Khulna deputy commissioner, said Ashiqur Rahman, communication officer of NID registration section, EC.Election Commissioner Brg. General (Retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury, parliament members Begum Monnuzan Sufian and Mizanur Rahman Mizan, Mayor of Khulna City Moniruzzaman Mony, additional secretary of EC Md Mokhlesur Rahman, Khulna divisional commissioner Md Abdus Samad, Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner(KMP) Humayun Kabir are expected to attend the function as special guests. Khulna deputy commissioner Md Amin ul Ahsan will preside the occasion. The chief guest will distribute the smart card to some elite and leaders of civil society in the city at the occasion, the sources added. Later, the EC will formally distribute smart card from July 20 at ward no-21. The card distribution will remain continue in the city and district till December, 2017. According to Khulna EC, a total of 4, 57,344 voters of city area and around 10 lakh voters in the district will get smart cards.
Tree fair begins in Panchagarh
PANCHAGARH: A three-day tree fair was inaugurated at Atowary upazila of the district on Monday. Atowary upazila administration and agriculture department jointly organised the fair. Upazila parishad chairman of Atowary Abdur Rahman formally inaugurated the fair by cutting ribbon as the chief guest.On the occasion, a discussion meeting was also held on the premises of Agriculture office. Upazila chairman said in his speech that there is no alternative to plant tree. Tree is very important for protect environment. A man should plant at least three tree every year for maintaining ecological balance of the country.Upazila Nirbahi Officer UNO) of Atowary Sarmin Sultana presided over the inaugural function.The programme was also addressed, among others,by female vice-chairman Mira Rani, Upazila freedom fighter commander Najrul Islam, Member of Zila parishad Mazedur Rahman, reports BSS.
