National Mourning Day programmes in Pirganj

The anniversary of martyrdom of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day will be observed in Pirganj on August 15 in a befitting manner. In observance of the day, an elaborate programme was chalked out Thursday morning at a meeting in the Upazila conference room here. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) ABM Iftekharul Islam Khadakar presided over the meeting. The programme of the day will begin with hoisting of national flag at half-mast atop all private and public buildings, mourning rally in the morning , art competition, hamd and nat, special Doa at all religion institutions , discussion meeting and prize distribution . A number of sub-committee have been formed to make the National Mourning Day programme a success.

Rally on World Breastfeeding Week held in C’nawabganj

With the slogan ‘Breastfeeding: A Winning Goal for Life’ the first day of the World Breastfeeding Week-2014 was observed in a befitting manner in Chapainawabganj on Thursday. Chapainawabganj Municipality, Urban Partnerships and Poverty Reduction (UPPR) project and Civil Surgeon’s office jointly arranged a colourful rally and discussion meeting on the occasion. The rally was taken out from the Chapainawabganj municipality office at 10 am and after parading the main roads of the town it ended at the same venue. A discussion meeting was also held at the conference room of the municipality with the mayor of Chapainawabganj municipality Maolana Abdul Matin in the chair. Among others, civil surgeon of Chapainawabganj Dr. AKM Mozahar Hossain and executive engineer of the municipality Sadequl Islam spoke on the occasion. The speakers said, immediate breastfeeding which means putting the baby to the mother’s breast within an hour after birth, significantly reduces neonatal mortality.

Two held , arms recovered in Jessore

Rapid Action Battalion personnel arrested two suspected terrorists and seized four county made fire arms, nine crude bombs and gun powder near Kazirber Women College under Sharsha upazila in Jessore. Raiding the area at around 10pm on Wednesday the RAB made the arrest and seizures searching their possessions, said Major Ashraf Uddin, Jessore camp in-charge, RAB-6. The arrested Saddam Hossain and Jhantu Mia of the area are accused in several cases. A case was filed with the police station in this regard.

RU Chhattra Jote protests attack on Junaid Saki

Rajshahi University (RU) progressive Chhatra Jote held demonstration on campus protesting attack on left leaning organisation’s leaders and activists including Junaid Saki and demanding three month’s salary and bonuses in full for Tuba Group workers, However, police dispersed rally.On Thursday, around 11:00am RU Progressive Chattra Jote, expressing solidarity with Tuba Group workers striking, brought out a procession on campus and gathered at the university Tukitaki Chattar to hold a rally but they failed in face of police’s hindrance.To disperse rally, officer-In-Charge (OC) of Motihar thana police Alamgir Hossain beat up mike up and hurled abuse to him.
