9 shops gutted in Sylhet

Valuables worth Tk 10 lakh were gutted as fire broke out in Nine shops at Chhatok upazila of the district Sunday. However, no one was injured in the incident. Fire brigade sources said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a semi-pucca shop at Jalalpur Bazar of the upazila at around 5 am Sunday. A unit from Patiya fire station rushed to the spot and extinguished the flame. The extended loss of the incident was estimated worth Tk 10 lakh according to the shop owners

3 drug peddlers detained with 500 bottles of phensidyl

Police detained three drug peddlers and recovered 500 bottles of contraband phensidyl syrup nearby police investigation centre of Mokamtola area under Shibgonj upazila of Bogra district recently. The arrested were identified as truck driver Ayub Ali, 42, son of Afsar Ali Telihara village, helper Helal Hossain,35, son of Anisar Hossain Gokul village under sadar upazila of Bogra district and Masud Rana,45, son of Mamunur Rashid Ramchandrapur village under Birampur upazila of Dinajpur district. Police said, on a tip-off, a team of police conducted the raid in the area and recovered the contraband drugs from wheat laden truck from Dinajpur to Noakhali and arrested them. A case was filed in this connection with Shibgonj police station.

Youth electrocuted in Barisal

One youth identified as Shahidul Islam, 17, son of Amirul Islam Bachchu, died after electrocuted at Gas Turbine electricity generating area under ward -25 of Barisal City Corporation died on Tuesday morning. Family and hospital sources said Shahid electrocuted by a line distributing 11 KV electricity to nearby Anchor cement factory when he went to spread his cloths under sun at the courtyard after taking bath. He was rushed to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital immediately, but the attending doctor declared him as dead. The dead body was handed over to family members without autopsy, hospital sources told.

4 held, arms seized in Jessore

Detective Branch, Kotwali station and Chansra camp police on Monday night arrested four terrorist suspects and recovered a one shooter gun and a bullet in separate drives. The arrested are listed terrorist Sabu of Stadiumpara, Shahidul Islam Pok and Noor Hossain and his son Sabu Hawlader of Chansra Raipara in the town. Sub inspector Tofael Ahmed of DB told that Sabu was arrested from Stadiumpara in the town on Monday night. ‘He is an accused in several cases’, he added. Kotwali station and Chansra camp police in a joint drive arrested Shahidul Islam Pok and two others from Chansra area at the same night. They were involved in drug trading and terrorist activities, said sub inspector Shoeb Uddin of Kotwali police station.

Man killed as tree fall on vehicle in Jessore

A passenger of a nasiman, an indigenous vehicle, died on the spot and four others were wounded as a roadside tree suddenly fell on the vehicle on Monday afternoon. The dead is identified as Abdar Rahman, 50 of Gorpara village under Sharsha upazila in Jessore. The wounded are Abdul Aziz, 40, Tofazzel Sarder, 60, Arzina Khatun, 30 and Fatema Begum, 25. They were rushed to Sharsha Upazila Health Complex. The wounded told journalists that Abdar Rahman died on the spot as a roadside tree fell on the nasiman it which they were going to their residences at Swarupdah on Sharsha- Kashipur Road in the afternoon.

AL factional clash leaves 20 injured in Jhenidah

Atleast 20 persons were injured in a factional clash among two rival groups of ruling Awami League at Boria village under Hakimpur union in Sailkupa upazila of the district on Monday. Of the injured eight were rushed to Sailkupa upazila health complex, seven in Jhenidah Sadar hospital and remaining five in Faridpur Medical College and Hospital. Locals said, two ruling party factions supported by Sailkupa upazila parishad chairman as well as Awami League Sailkupa upazila unit secretary Mosharraf Hossain Sone Sikder and Aka Dakter were locked in fierce clash at about 1:00PM.A hand of some Miraj was severed during the clash.
When contacted, Hakimpur union parishad chairman, also the son of Sona Sikder had admitted the fact and said, previous enmity among the ruling party men was liable for the clash. Sailkupa police officer I charge Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury said, it was not so much fatal and no body had rushed to police station to file any case till Monday evening. It may be mentioned that on Sunday (August 3) another 20 sustained injuries in another fatal clash between two AL groups at Bogura village in same upazila.
