Fisherman electrocuted in Barisal

BARISAL: A fisherman was electrocuted at Khaledabad Colony of South Alekanda area in the city yesterday morning.The victim was identified as Anwar Hossain, 42, son of Shamsul Haque Khan, a resident of Demra area in the capital city of Dhaka. He lived in Barisal with his family.Police and local sources said Anwar died on the spot as he came in contact with a live electric wire while he was catching fish using electricity, reports BSS.

Youth’s body recovered in Sripur

 Police recovered the body of an unidentified youth from Chargoalpara village under Sripur upazila of the district this noon. Being informed, a team of police from Sripur Thana rushed to the spot and recovered the body from a jute field of the village. Later, the body was sent to Magura 250-bed hospital morgue. “We are conducting investigation into the matter,” said Officer-in-Charge of the Thana Rejaul Islam. A case was filed in this connection.

UDC entrepreneurs to reach services to people’s doorstep

RANGPUR: Entrepreneurs of union digital centres (UDCs), pourashava digital centres (PDCs) and city digital centres (CDCs) have expressed their firm commitment to reach government services to the people’s doorsteps.They came up with the commitment at an orientation workshop organised by District Information Office with assistance of district administration under the access to information (a2i) programme of the Prime Minister’s Office here on Thursday.The workshop was arranged for formation of human media club of UDC entrepreneurs and assisting them in reaching services to people’s doorstops and screening documentary on the government’s massive development activitiesDeputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman attended the event as the chief guest with Senior District Information Officer Humayun Kobir in the chair, reports BSS

One killed in Natore road accident

Truck helper was killed in a road accident in Bandar Shatmail area on Natore-Bogra highway under Singra upazila of the district yesterday morning.The deceased was identified as Monju Mondol, 38, son of Kashem Mondol of Karoj village under Raninagar upazila of Naogaon.Sergeant Hamidul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Zhalmalia highway police camp, said the accident occurred as a Bogra bound speedy truck hit another truck from behind in the area around 10am, leaving Mondol dead on the spot. A team of Natore Fire Service Station rushed to the spot and recovered the body.

Wheat procurement drive begins in Shaghata

GAIBANDHA: Wheat procurement drive has begun in Shaghata upazila in the district on Thursday amid much enthusiasm to the farmers.UNO Uzzal Kumar Ghos formally inaugurated the wheat procurement drive in the upazila as the chief guest while upazila food controller Halimur Rahman Palash presided over the inaugural ceremony. Office sources said the government has set a target to procure a total of 140 tonnes of wheat from the upazila during the current season.The growers could sell wheat in the government purchasing centres taking the certification from the local sub assistant agriculture officer and union parishad chairman, said Sahedur Rahman, officer in charge of local supply depot.Price of per kg of wheat has been fixed at Taka 28, he said adding that much enthusiasm has been seen among the farmers here on the inaugural day.
Talking to the BSS district controller food M. Amzad Hossain said the government would procure a total of 2,000 tonnes of wheat through 11 purchasing centres of the food department from the district this season, reports BSS.
