One gets life term in Chapainawabganj

One person was sentenced to life term imprisonment and was fined Tk. 10,000, six months more in default for killing his wife. Additional district and session judge Ab: Salam Khan gave the verdict yesterday. The convicted person was identified as Md Mithu, son of Jamed Ali of Jahidpur village under Nachole upazila of the district. According to the prosecution story, Mithu killed his wife Razia Khatun, 20, daughter of Bodiuzzaman of the same village on August 12, 2007 at night by giving her sleeping pills. After the incident Razia’s mother Nurjahan Begum filed a murder case with Nachole thana on August 15, 2007. As the charge against Mithu was proved beyond doubt, the court ordered such verdict as punishment.
Child killed in road accident
A girl child was killed in a road mishap at Kolabari under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district on Sunday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Saleha Khatun, 8, daughter of Layes Uddin of the aforesaid area. SI Mohammad Ali of Shibganj thana said, as Saleha was crossing the road, a truck hailing from Sonamasjid land port hit her killing her on the spot at 3-15 pm.
Madrasha student killed in Jhenidah road crash

A madrasha student was killed in a road crash in Jhenidah on Sunday morning. This incident occurred at Soteromile bus stand under Shailkupa Upazila of the district. The victim is Sabbir Hossain, 11, son of Babu Mondol of Sadhukhali village of the upazila. He was a student of class seven of Bordah madrasha. Officer- in- charge (OC) Anwar Hossain of Shailkupa police station said, Sabbir was going to madrasha with his father riding on a motor bike when they reached Soteromile bus stand a speeding truck bound for Jessore knocked them from behind. Sabbir died on the spot and his father has been rushed to Jhenidah sadar hospital. On information police reached the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Jhenidah sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Two youths held with arms

Police arrested two youths with foreign made pistol, sharp weapons in Bogra town on Saturday. The arrestees were identified as Sohag, 22, son of Mistafizar Rahman and Hasan Ali, 21, son of Bablu Sheikh of village Matidali Uttarpara of the Municipality. AHM Faizur Rahman, Officer in Charge (OC) of Bogra shadar police station said a team of police conducted a drive in Matidalir mor area and arrested two youths and seized a foreign made pistol and sharp weapons under their positions. A case is lodged with the PS and the arrestees were sent to jail, OC added.
Motorcyclist crashed under truck
A motorcyclist crashed under truck in Gokul on Dhaka-Rangpur highway on Saturday noon. The deceased was identified as Tajul Islam, 38, son of late freedom fighter Shahjahan Ali master of village Gokul South Para of shadar upazila of the district. Tajul Islam also a village doctor. Sub Inspector (S.I) of Bogra Shadar Police Station Saidul Islam said village Dr. Tajul Islam was returning from a patient house and going to the town for purchasing drugs. At around 1.00pm a speedy truck hit his backside and he crashed under the truck leaving dead in the spot. Police handed over the body to the family members after their application that they want to take the body without post mortem, SI added. AHM Faizur Rahman, Officer in Charge (OC) of Bogra shadar police station said a case was filed with the PS in this connection.
8 BNP-Jamaat men held in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA: Joint forces in separate overnight drives arrested eight BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami activists in Sundarganj and Gobindaganj upazila early Monday. Gaibandha police control room sources said members of joint forces arrested two Jamaat activists from Sundarganj upazila and six BNP activists from Gobindaganj upazila. The joint forces arrested the BNP and Jamaat men for being involved in violence in the district during the 18-party alliance’s blockade and hartal programmes, reports UNB.
Drug trader held with yaba in N’ganj
NARAYANGANJ : Officials of the Narcotics Control Department arrested an alleged drug trader along with 1,000 pieces of Yaba tablets from Amlapara area in the district town on Sunday. The arrestee was identified as Nadim,32, son of Khadim Ali of the area. Nasir Ullah Bhuiyan, in-charge of Narayanganj circle office of the Narcotics Control Department, said a team of the department officials, on a tip-off, met Nadim in the President Road area around 12:30pm disguising themselves as Yaba buyers and arrested him along with the tablets. However, Nadim’s accomplice Billal managed to escape earlier sensing the presence of the narcotics control officials, reports UNB.
