UK Conservatives see lead cut to 17 points: Poll

 The Conservative Party of British Prime Minister Theresa May has a narrower lead over the opposition Labour Party than a week ago, an opinion poll published by research firm Panelbase showed on Wednesday ahead of a national election on June 8.
The online poll, which excluded undecided voters, gave the Conservatives 47 percent support, down two percentage points from Panelbase’s previous poll published last week, while support for Labour rose three points to 30 percent.

US urges Pakistan, India to hold direct talks

The United States urged Pakistan and India on Tuesday to engage in direct talks for reducing tensions, as sabre-rattling along the Line of Control alarmed world capitals.
“We encourage India and Pakistan to engage in direct dialogue aimed at reducing tensions,” a spokesperson for the US State Department told Dawn. “We believe India and Pakistan stand to benefit from practical cooperation.”

EU won’t halt US, Canada visa waivers

 The EU on Tuesday ruled out forcing US and Canadian citizens to get visas after making progress on a row over permit-free travel for five of the bloc’s countries.
Citizens of Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Poland and Romania all need visas to enter the United States. Canada maintains visa restrictions on Bulgarians and Romanians.

Suicide attack kills 8 civilians in Kabul

 A suicide bombing in the Afghan capital Kabul on Wednesday killed eight people and wounded at least 28, officials said, in an attack on a convoy of armored personnel carriers used by the NATO-led Resolute Support mission.
The blast hit the NATO coalition convoy during the morning rush hour in one of the busiest areas of Kabul. Public health officials in the capital said eight civilians were killed and at least 25 wounded, with a number of civilian vehicles that were near the convoy destroyed or badly damaged.
