Bangabandhu Memorial College students demand for nationalisation of college

 Students of Bangabandhu Memorial College in Sailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah blocked Jhenaidah-Kushtia Highway for 90 minutes on Thursday. They had demanded immediate nationalization of the college. The agitated students vandalized a number of vehicles stranded on both sides of the highway started at 10.30 AM. The police opened a number of shots from the short guns to disperse the agitated blockers. Three police men sustained minor injuries during the chase and counter chase, the police said. Locals said, the students, both female and male came to the highway blocked the highway keeping them asleep. Some of them started chanting slogans demanding nationalization of the college. The also vandalized five to six vehicles stranded on both sides of the highway. In the other hand principal of Bangabandhu Memorial College AKM Mamunur Rahman said, he along with upazila nirbahi officer of Sailkupa Mohammad Usman Gani and officer in charge of Sailkupa police station Tarikul Islam met the students on the highway. But he was not clear why the students were doing so. The principal said, Thursday was scheduled for holding the first day of the yearly examination in the college. A group of the students with the assistance of some outsiders blocked the highway to foil the examination. However, the students withdrawn their blockade at about 12 in the noon, he said. Officer in charge of Sailkupa police station Tarikul Islam when contacted admitted the blank firing by the police men and said, three of the law enforcers including a police sub inspector sustained injuries during the chase and counter chase between the students and police men. Fire broke out in a stamp vendor shop in Taltola of sylhet city on Tuesday. Due to short-circuit this fire broke out in the shop of Nazir Miah. As a result the vendor loss Tk. 1 lakh.
Fire service and civil defense said on Tuesday due to short-circuit the fire broke out. One unit of fire personal reached the spot immediately. They try half an hour and Control the fire. But in the mean time utensils worth TK 1lakh gutted. Fire service rescue some materials worth TK 1 and half lakh.

Lone accused to suffer for life for killing Yanur in Jessore

A court in Jessore has given penalty until death to the lone accused in Yanur Rahman of Uttar Kagojpukur under Benapole port police station. SM Badruzzaman Palash, public prosecutor, Jessore confirmed the information on Tuesday night although it was pronounced earlier on the day. The convict is M Ibrahim, son of Late Yusuf Munshi of Kagojpukur village. Nitai Chandra Saha, Special Judge pronounced the verdict. According to the prosecution story, M Ibrahim killed Yanur with a sharp weapon on the evening of 15th May, 2006 following a feud. The court also fined the accused Tk 20 thousand in the verdict.
Two bakeries fined in Jessore
The mobile court led by executive magistrate Abdullah -Al- Mahfuz has fined Tk 16,000 to two bakeries – Siddique Bakery and Sako Snacks at Daratana area in Jessore town on Wednesday. Siddique Bakery was filed Tk 10,000 while the other Tk 6,000 for not using labels on food packets which contains date of expiry, magistrate Abdullah -Al- Mahfuz said. The bakeries were raided at around 11:30am on Wednesday.
