4 drug peddlers held with Yaba in Bogra

Police arrested four drug paddlers with Yaba pills from Fulbari area in the town on the early Friday. The arrestees are : Nannu Mia, 26, son of late Bulu Mia of village Fulbari uttarpara, Khaja Mia Akhand, 38, son of late Fotu Mia of village Katnarpara, Meheraj, 26, son of Saidur Rahman of village Fulbar uttarpara, and Abdul Momin allies Mehedul allies Mridul, 36, son of Mohsin Ali Mondal of village Karimpara south para of Gabtoli upazila of Bogra district. Police source said a team of anti-drug special operations conducted in Fulbari area in the town on Thursday night led by Additional Superintendent of Police Mr. Sanatan Chakraborti and the team arrested the four drug paddlers from the spot with 42 pieces of Yaba pills at the time of selling. Md. Rabiul Islam, Town Sub Inspector (TSI) of Fulbari outpost said a case was lodged with shadar police station in this connection.
Two jailed for possessing illegal firearms, ammunition
RAJSHAHI: Two persons were sentenced to different terms of rigorous imprisonment by a trial tribunal here on Thursday for possessing firearms and ammunition illegally. Judge of Speedy Trial Tribunal Shirin Kabita Akhter found the convicts Raju Ahmed Rubel, 25, and Rashed Rana, 28, both hailing from Doulatpur village under Shibgonj Upazila in Chapainawabgonj district guilty of the charges and pronounced the verdict in their absconding. The court sentenced Rubel to 14 years while Rashed Rana to 10 years rigorous imprisonment. According to the prosecution story, detective branch police team arrested Rubel and Rana from in-front of Emergency unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital under Rajpara Police Station in the city on December 25, 2013. Subsequently, police seized a pistol and three rounds of bullets from Rubel while two rounds of bullets and a magzine from possession of Rana. A case was lodged with the police station concerned. On completion of investigation police pressed charges accusing them. Special Public Prosecutor Entajul Haque Babu conducted the case on behalf of the state, reports BSS.
One killed in Gopalganj road accident
GOPALGANJ: A man was killed and 10 others were injured in a road accident at Chandra Digholiya in Sadar upazila of the district this morning. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar Thana Selim Reza said the accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound bus ‘Tungipara Express ‘ collided head-on with a covered van in the area around 7am, leaving one Abdul Jabbar dead on the spot. The injured were admitted to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital, the OC added, reports BSS.
900 Yaba pills seized, one held
FARIDPUR: Police detained an alleged drug peddler along with 900 pieces of Yaba tablets and Tk1.85lakh in cash from the Sadar upazila’s Shibrampur area early Saturday. The detainee is Zafor Alam, of Rajbari district. Md Nazim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station, said: “Acting on a tip-off, a team of police raided a bus around 1 am and held Zafor with the Yaba pills and the cash money, reports UNB.
Schoolboy killed in lightning in Sylhet

A schoolboy was killed by a lightning strike at Burdeo village in Companyganj upazila of Sylhet district on Friday. The deceased was identified as Towhidur Rahman, 11, son of Abdul Jalil of the village and a Class-VI student of Companyganj High School. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abdul Lais said Towhidur died on the spot as a thunderbolt struck him when he went to a field near his house around 2:30pm to call the cattle home.
