Art competition in Baldi High School held

An art competition, discussion meeting and prize -giving ceremony was organised in Baldi Ideal High School at South Surma in Sylhet district on Thursday on the occasion of the birthday of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Headmaster of Baldi Ideal High School presided over the ceremony and assistant teacher Al Mehedi Talukder conducted the meeting. In the competition Roni Begum Sumi, Masum Ahmed and A Halim took part.

5 shops gutted in Morrelganj Bazar

Properties worth Tk 5 crores were gutted when a devastating fire broke out in Morrelganj Bazar,Upazila headquarters Morrelganj in Bagerhat on Friday in the early hours, according to a report received here. Fire Brigade Service of Morrelganj and locals said that on the day at 4 am the fire originated from an electricity short circuit took place in a grocery of Mudi Patty of the bazar spread to its adjacent shops and went out of control within minutes. Being informed of the matter 2 fire service units of Morrelganj rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after a long fighting for about two hours. Two fire service units-one from Bagerhat and another from Sharankhola also rushed to the spot and assisted the Morrelganj fire units in extinguish the fire. In spite of those 5 shops named Variety Store, M/S. Bismillah Enterprises, Riad Store, Motaleb store and a cosmetic shop with their all belongings were completely burnt to ashes. The fire victim shopkeepers are Abdul Wahab Bepari, Mujibor Rahman Shaikh, Ziadul Islam, Md. Jamal Molla and Hafizur Rahman. According to the primary assessment, the loss of fire is more than Tk.5 lakh. Another report states that one dwelling house and a kitchen belonging to Hanif Paik, a poor day labourer of village Mulghar under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district were gutted when fire broke out in his kitchen on Thursday at noon. It is learnt from the locals that on the day at noon while a college going daughter of Hanif Paik was cooking in the kitchen the fire originated from the burning oven engulfed the kitchen and the dwelling house within minutes.

Balsam-apple field destroyed

 Miscreants destroyed one bigah korola (Balsam-apple) field of a farmer named Miraj Uddin at Gafargaon under Mymensingh recently. The incident happened at Nidhiarchar Vatipara village in Gafargaon Upazila. Farmer Miraj Uddin (50) and locals informed, Jamal Uddin and his family with Miraj Uddin and his family has been quarrelling for a long time. At family feud Jamal Uddin with his people destroyed one bighah korola kand of Miraj Uddin at night. At this about 2 lakh TK has been damaged of farmer Miraj Uddin. Farmer Miraj Uddin informed, taking loan he cultivated korola and nursing this land. After destroying the full crops he has been undone. Charalgi UP member ,Dulal Uddin said, to set on fire in the stack of straw of Miraj Uddin at night and has stolen two cows of Miraj Uddin. Charalgi UP chairman Md.Masuduzzaman said, family feud has been going on between two families for a long time. To settle down the dispute between two families but Jamal Uddin could not respond to discuss the dispute taken step from UP. A.K.M Mahbub Hossain,OC , Gafargaon Thana said, I have heard the incident. 2 held with liquor in Jessore

JESSORE: Police arrested two drug peddlers along with 130 liters of liquor from Lohapatti area in the district town on Thursday night.Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive and arrested Shahid, 35 of Birampur upazila and Bappa, 25 of Railgate area of the town along with the liquor around 10 pm.A case was filed with Kotwali Police station, reports UNB.
