HSC student commits suicide in Barisal

One higher secondary student committed suicide at Hamida Manjil of Hospital Road area in the city on Thursday afternoon. The victim was identified as Manjurul Morshed Nayon, son of Engineer Sultan Mahmud, higher secondary student of local Amrita Lal College. Engineer Sultan Mahmud, father of the victim, said Nayon was scheduled to appear HSC examination this year. Sickness forced him to remain absent in the examination. From that time he was suffering from depressions, often weeping and remained inside the room. He alleged that his friends insulting him for his absence in examination. On Thursday noon Nayon went to his bed room closing the door and not opened that till afternoon. After no response from repeated calling family members breaking the door at about 5:15 PM found dead body of Nayon hanging from ceiling fan, family sources said. Matiar Rahman, officer in charge Kotwali police station, said dead body of Nayon sent to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital for autopsy lodging a case of unnatural death.

Tailoring workers’ human chain in Barisal demanding salary- hike

More than 200 workers of 50 tailoring shops in the city forming human chain held agitation rally on Thursday demanding increase of wages and service benefits.
The programme held in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall was organized by the Tailoring Shop Workers Movement Committee presided over by Abdur Razzak , convener of the committee. It was addressed among others by Manik Haoladar, joint convener, Milan, Tushar Sen, leaders of the committee, Advocate A K Azad, central committee member of the Bangladesh Trade Union Kendra. The speakers said that owners of the tailors taking Tk. 380-500 for a pant, Tk. 200-350 for a shirt, Tk. 4000 for a blazer, 200-800 for different types of ladies wears, as stitching and making charges from the customers. But they giving only Tk. 122-130 for a pant, Tk. 66 for a shirt and Tk. 500-550 for a blazer, 50-200 for ladies wear to the workers without considering overtime work, holiday and other service benefits, agitated workers said. We started movement after our demands of at least fifty percent increase of the present wages were refused by the owners, they said. Refusing the demand of the workers, Md. Babul Ahmed, president of the tailors owners association said the wages of the workers already increased earlier, so there is no way to increased that further.

Rangpur students protest public exam

Students of different classes on Wednesday forming a human chain and holding rally protested the announcement of conducting public examinations without interval demanded punishment of the culprits connected with question leakages.
The students’ wing of left front organised the programme under the banner of Sachetan in front of Carmicale College Smagnuntrick Shittaro Front Abu Rayan bokshi , Rokunugaman, Abu Syed ,Imran Sharker addressed the programme. The speakers said students were not liable, but sufferer for question leakage. So students always claiming punishment of the culprits liable for that crime and should not be more sufferer by conducting public examinations without intervals.Several probe committees were formed, but none of the liable for leakage of questions was put under trial. However the education minister giving the blaming students for leaking questions announced conducting public examinations without any interval.This decision will only affect the students and would be benefited those who liable for question leakage. It will also damage the healthy educational environment of the campus, the speakers told.

UP member stabbed to death by brother in Savar

An UP member was stabbed to death by his younger brother over land dispute at Vakurta Union in Savar on Wednesday morning. After 5 days treatment he died at Ibn Sina Hospital at Dhanmondi. Deceased Faruq Chowdhury, 35 was 2nd son of freedom fighter Md. Mohiuddin Chowdhury and 8 No Ward member of Vakurta Union Parishad. Deceased father said, before some times of iftar on previous Friday, Javed and Faruq started arguing over land dispute. Younger brother Javed stabbed him and fled away . Some locals sent him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. From there he was sent to Ibna Sina Hospital. Mostofa Kamal, Officer-in-charge of Savar police station said, we are trying to arrest the convict. Dead body was sent to morgue for autopsy. A case was filed in this connection.
