UNB, Dhaka :
The High Court will decide on Wednesday whether it accept the appeal filed challenging the acquittal of Awami League MP Abdur Rahman Bodi in a case filed for accumulating wealth beyond his known sources of income.
An HC bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice JBM Hassan fixed the date on Tuesday.
Earlier on November 10, the Anti Corruption Commissions (ACC) filed the petition with the High Court challenging the lower court’s verdict that acquitted Bodi in the graft case.
On November 2, the lower court here sentenced Bodi, an MP from Cox’s Bazar-4 constituency, to three years’ imprisonment for concealing information about wealth. The prosecution, however, failed to prove the other charge of amassing wealth beyond the known sources against him.
According to the case statement, Bodi concealed information about his wealth worth more than Tk 108.6 million amassed from unknown sources.
The case statement also shows that Bodi owned property worth Tk 4.979 million in 2008. In an income statement sent to ACC in 2013, he stated that he owned assets worth Tk 160.7 million.
On May 7 last year, the Anti Corruption Commission submitted chargesheet in the case.
