PSB’s second floor inaugurated in Rajshahi

Secretary of Rural Development and Cooperatives Division Dr Prosanto Kumar Roy has said the Pally Sanchay Bank (PSB) is one of the vital means of eradicating rural poverty in Bangladesh. He mentioned the PSB is a specialised financial institution that has been created for boosting savings and investment of rural people. He was addressing a discussion after inaugurating the second floor of PSB on Paba Upazila Parishad complex in the district yesterday afternoon as chief guest.With Upazila Nirbahi Officer Selim Hossain in the chair, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shalah Uddin, Upazila Chairman Begum Khairunnessa, Vice-chairman Ashraful Haque, Joint Registrar of Department of Cooperatives Akhteruzzaman and PSB Coordinator Soheli Yeasmin also spoke.Prosanto Kumar said the main objective of founding the bank was to save poor people from the grip of so-called ‘micro credit’ which never helps people coming out of poverty trap.The bank will encourage people in savings and investment, playing role in alleviating poverty and boosting rural economy, he hoped. It has a vision to make every rural house into an agricultural farm using country’s rich biodiversity and ecosystem, the secretary added.
BGB seized 10 kg hemp in Damurhuda frontier

The border guard battalion personnel in Chuadanga have seized 10 kilograms of hemp from Damurhuda frontier in the early hours of Saturday, Approximate price of the seized contra banned was estimated for an amount of Taka 35 thousand, said the BGB sources. BGB Chuadanga battalion director Amir Mazid said, acting on a tip off, a contingent of the border men seized the item from Buchitala field in Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga. But the owner of the contra banned managed to flee sensing the border guard personnel. The seized items was deposited to local office of the narcotics department, the battalion director said.
Construction work of 11 bridges begins in Shaghata upazila
GAIBANDHA: Construction work of 11 bridges at 10 unions of Shaghata upazila in the district has begun very recently aimed at promoting the road communication system in rural areas. Upazila Relief and Rehabilitation Office under the Ministry of Disaster and Relief is implementing the work involving Taka about 3 crore under the direct supervision of the upazila administration, an officer of the upazila administration said. The bridges are being built over different canals and water bodies at Bonarpara, Padumshahar, Bharatkhali, Muktinagar, Kachua, Ghuridaha, Holdia, Kamelpara Jumarbari and Shaghata unions of the upazila, reports BSS.
Youth held with arms, ammo
RAJBARI: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a young man along with one foreign pistol, two shutter guns, two magazines and three bullets from Pachuria area in Sadar upazila early Saturday. Tipped off, a team of Rab-8 Faridpur conducted a drive in the area and arrested Bashir Uddin, 27, son of Azizul Haque of Nabagram of the upazila, at dead of night, said Moahmmad Rais Uddin, additional superintendent of police. According to Bashir’s statement, the elite force members recovered the arms and ammunition from his house. A case was filed, reports UNB.
