The District level children cultural festival was held at Gopalganj Shilpakala premises recently. Md Khalilur Rahman, DC Gopalganj inaugurated the festival as Chief Guest, M. Mizanur Rahman, SP, Gopalganj also present as special guest. Among others Raja Mia Batu, President of Gopalganj AL, Emdadul Haqul Chowdhury, General Secretary Gopalganj District AL and Mahbub Ali Khan and Join Secretary Gopalganj District AL were also present. The programme was presided over by Md Liakat Ali, ADC (Gen.), Gopalganj. Participants four children teams are from Kotalipara Upazila, Binapani Girls High School, Jugoshikha School and Muksudpur Upazila.

Grandson kills grandmother over family feud in Bakerganj

A grandson has killed his maternal grandmother over family feud at Poratena village under Neamoti union of Bakerganj upazila in Barisal district on Tuesday noon. The victim was identified as Setara Begum, 60, wife of Ismail Sharif of the village. Sub Inspector Mosharraf Hossain of Bakerganj police station, said Sujan, 18, grandson of Setara Begum and son of her daughter Parvin Begum, engaged in altercation with his maternal grandmother over family issues on Tuesday morning. At one stage Sujan hit Setara with kitchen knife ( Dao) at about 9:00 AM. Severely injured Setara rushed to Bakerganj upazila health complex by local people and she expired there at 11:30 AM, police sources said. Killer grandson Sujan fled from the scene and dead body of Setara sent to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital for autopsy after lodging a case of unnatural death. Preparation for lodging a murder case in this connection was under preparation till this report and police trying to nab the killer grandson Sujan, said SI Mosharraf.

Accused of 8 cases , 6 Jamaat activists held in Jhenidah

Police nabbed an outlawed cadre of Biplobi Communist Party (BCP) from Poltadanga village under Harinakundo upazila of the district on Tuesday early hours. The arrestee is Faruk Hossain, 38 son of Afsar Sardar of Poltadanga village under the upazila. He is an accused of seven murder cases and one abduction case. Officer in charge (OC) Ershadul Kabir Chowdhury of Harinakundo police station said, acting on a tip off they launched a drive at Poltadanga village and arrested Faruk Hossain an accused of eight cases.

Newly posted DC exchanges views with Netrakona journos

The newly posted deputy commissioner (DC) Netrakona Torun Kanti Shikdar said that the journalists have wider opportunities to help the administration as well as the government for ensuring proper official service delivery to the people and steering the nation towards progress and prosperity by highlighting actual picture of the society through writing or telecasting objective news in the media. The DC told that the newspersons are known as “mirror” of the society, so they can play a vital role to uphold the truth and keep the people free from confusion and root-out crime, terrorism, superstition, corruption and militancy or subversive activities from the society. The new DC Torun Kanti Shikdar, who took over charges of the deputy commissioner Netrakona on July 3 last, addressing at an opinion-sharing meeting with the district-level news persons of different national, regional and local news papers, news agencies and electronic media at the conference room of Netrakona DC office here on Sunday last. In the views-exchanging meeting, the journalists leaders including Shamolendu Paul, Faqrul Haque, Muklesur Rahman Khan, Habibur Rahman, Mahbubul Kibria Halim, Humayun Kabir Salim, Kamal Hussain and Bajan Das took part in the discussion underlining the cooperation of the district administration for ensuring free flow of information and executing right to information act in the district to help them for discharging their professional duties properly.The journalists also drew the attention of the new DC on some local problems and barriers including some irregularities or mismanagements on the ways to build-up the district as a developed district and urged upon him to take urgent official steps for removing all the barriers.
