3 Sylhet BCL men injured in knife attack

 Three local leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were injured in a knife attack at Tilagar in the city on Monday night. The injured were identified as Rajon Chowdhury, a former BCL leader and president of ‘Shapla Sangha’, a local social organization, and two BCL activists-Mabrur and Tanim. A gang of masked miscreants attacked the trio while they were chatting at Tilagar around 9.30pm and stabbed them indiscriminately, leaving them critically injured, said Shahjalal Munshi, officer-in-charge of Shahporan Police Station. The injured were taken to local hospital.
Moktar Ali Foundation distributes scholarship in Bishwanath
Moktar Ali Foundation awarded scholarships to 100 students at four high schools at Bishwanath in Sylhet district as part of its ongoing yearly scholarship distribution programme among financially disadvantaged but meritorious students at a ceremony on Saturday. Yahya Chowdhury MP of Sylhet-2 Constitution handed over the scholarships to the students. stipends of Tk 2000 were awarded to candidates. In addition to students, guardians and the school faculty, the ceremony was attended by vise chairman of Bishwanath Parished Ahmed Nuruddin, Staff reporter of daily Sylheterdak M Ahmed Ali, President of bishwanath Press club Jamal Uddin, Moulana Moklisur Rahman, Poet Motiul Islam, Chairman of BRDB Mohobbat Ali were the special guests at the event. Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Guest Yahya Chowdhury MP expressed his gratitude to Chevron for the support it has rendered towards the improvement of education in the region and looked forward to similar initiatives from foundation in the future.
Fish trader killed in Rajshahi road mishap
RAJSHAHI: A fish trader was killed when a truck crushed him at Nawdapara area under Shahmukhdum Police Station here this noon, police said. The deceased was identified as Jonab Ali, 40, son of Akbar Ali of Chowmohani Bazar under Motiher Police Station in the city. Zillur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Shahmukhdum Police Station, said the trader met the tragic road mishap while he was going to the nearby Baya area for collecting his dues riding on bicycle around 1.30 pm. He was immediately rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital with serious injuries where the attending doctors declared him dead after a few minutes of admission. Soon after the accident, the driver managed to escape with his vehicle, said the police officer, reports BSS.
4 RU Shibirmen sent to jail

 A Rajshahi Court on Tuesday sent four students of Rajshahi University to jail for their alleged involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir politics. The court passed the order after Police produced RU Shibir Habibur Rahman Hall unit president Abu Jafor, master’s student of philosophy department, general secretary Saiful Islam, master’s student of social work department, finance secretary Anamul Islam, master’s student of Islamic studies department, and activist Abdul Alim, fourth year student of social work department, before the court showing arrest in sabotage cases file with the police station in this month. Humayon Kabir, officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station said that the detained four admitted that they were involved with Shibir politics, adding he said that the four were sent to jail in a case filed with Motihar Police station in this month. Earlier, BCL RU unit president Golam Kibriya and general secretary Faisal Ahmed Runu searched room no. 141 of the hall around 3am and found some documents of Shibir from Abdul Alim, resident student of the room. Then, from the information given by Abdul Alim, BCL leaders held Jafor, Saiful and Anamul with shibir’s activists ‘lists from the hall.
