Student killed in Bagerhat road mishap

Shahidul Islam (18), a student of XI class science of local Khanjahan Ali Degree College and son of one Sobhan Shaikh of village Nataikhali under Sadar Upazila in Bagerhat district met his tragic end when he was run over by a speeding passenger Mahendra, a three wheeled mechanized vehicle on Bagerhat-Khulna Highway just in front of the college on Tuesday morning. Khondokar Asif Uddin Rakhi, Principal of the college disclosed to the newsmen that ill-fated student was coming to the college on foot and when he reached the place of occurrence the killer three wheeled vehicle dashed him violently from his behind and fled away. As a result, he was fatally injured. He was rushed to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital where the doctor declared him dead. As a mark of its protest the agitated students of the college ransacked a passenger bus and blockaded the highway. Being informed of the matter police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control when they assured the students to arrest the driver of the killer vehicle. After the postmortem examination of the dead boy was done it was handed over to the relatives and the same was buried in the family graveyard on the same day.
PIB journalism training begins in Bagha

A three-day-long training on journalism has began in Bagha Health Complex of District of Rajshahi on Tuesday morning organised by Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB). About 38 journalists participated in the training from Chargaht and Bagha Upazila of district, Rajshahi and Lalpur and Baghadipara in Natore. Dr. Prodip Kumar Panday, Associate Professor and Chairperson , Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Rajshahi University have taken the first day training class. Dr Sirazul Islam and PIB coordinator Zilhaj Uddin Nipun and Abul Kalam Md Azad, Reporter of Prothom Alo was present the training programme.

A team of Rapid Action Battalion Unit-8 in a drive arrested one youth and recovered arms ammunition from his possession on Friday night. RAB-8 issuing a press-note on Saturday said a team of RAB-8 when reached at Purbo Imamkathi village of Bakharkathi under Bakerganj upazila of Barisal on Friday night, one youth awaking about presence of the law enforcers tried to flee away. RAB team detained him after chasing and recovered one shooter gun, one revolver, and 3 rounds ammunition of gun and two rounds of revolver from a sack carried by him. The detained youth was identified as Ruhul Amin Haoladar, 26, son of Amir Hossain Haoladar,from Surjapasha village under Nalcity upazila of Jhalakathi district.
