Abdullah-Al-Musayeb, CoU :
Classroom crisis has resulted in a dire consequence of academic obstacles in Comilla University (CoU). Classes are going on in two shifts at CoU due to the scarcity of classrooms. One batch has to wait for the class or the exam schedule if the other batch is in the class or in the exam. Teachers are also facing troubles to complete the course outline.
Comilla University has 17 departments. Classes of three departments (Archaeology, Fermacy, & Finance and Banking) are held only in a one room. The Chairmen and the teachers of these departments manage their official works in the same room. Students of Statistics, Chemestry and Physics are doing their classes in one room, though they have four batches.
Bangla, Anthropology, CSE and ICT departments have two classrooms for six batches. Besides, the founding departments of the university (Economics, English, Public Adminstration, Mathematics, Accounting and Information System, Management and Marketing) have two or three classrooms each though 8 years passed. There is neither library nor seminar room in any departments. As there is no exam hall in the university, exams are held in the classrooms that hinder the normal class routine.
Moreover, most of the labs of the Departments of Science faculty are not rich enough.
The Pharmacy Dept has no lab although they have to do more practical work than theoretical classes. Students of Pharmacy department demanded lab facilities to enrich their practical knowledge.
They opined, the science departments couldn’t function properly without a laboratory. The university has no common room for entertainment and leisure.
The university register admitted the problems and said, ‘Tk. 68 core is under approval and after getting it we will start expansion work of academic buildings’.
