International Day against Drug Abuse observed in Narsingdi

 Department of Narcotics Contrl(DNC) with the cooperation of district administration organised the discussion meeting in observance of the Inter national Day against drug abuse and illegal drug trafficking in local Shilpakala Academy here with Additional deputy Commissioner Kamal Hossain in the chair on Thursday. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Suriaya Begum The meeting was also addressed among others by Principal of Abdul Kader Mollah City College Dr Moshiur rahman Mirdha, Inspector of Narcotics Control, Narsingdi Abu Raza Mahadi Hassan and Assistant district education officer Narandra Dash. The speakers discussed the harmful impacts of drug abuse and called for undertaking coordinated initiatives by all to free the society from the menace. They stressed the need for creating awareness among the people particularly the youths about the bad effects of narcotics. Earlier, a colourful rally led by Deputy Commissioner Narsingdi Obaidul Azam was brought out in the town on the occasion.

School girl crushed under tomtom in Wajirpur

A school girl crushed under Tomtom (locally assembled tempo) at Guthia in Wajirpur of Barisal on Friday.The victim was identified as Fatema Begum, 10, student of class three at local primary school and daughter of Saidur Rahman from Daroga Bari area of Guthia. Saidur Rahman, father of the victim, said a Tomtom hit Fatema while she was crossing the road and attending doctor declared her as dead after she brought to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital.Dr. Das Ranobir, emergency medical officer SBMCH, confirmed the death of Fatema at about 11:00 am on Friday.The dead body of the victim was handed over to guardians as they denied lodging any case or autopsy, said Sub Inspector Humaun Kabir, acting officer in charge Wazirpur police station.

10 injured in Magura intra-AL clash
MAGURA: At least 10 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups of local Awami League (AL) over establishing supremacy in Sreepur uapzila of the district on Thursday night. Awlad Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station, said Abdul Halim, an AL leader and Goyeshpur union parishad chairman, and Yusuf Ali, a local leader of the ruling party, had been at loggerheads over establishing dominion in the area. As a sequel to the enmity, a chase and counter-chase took place between the supporters of both the groups over the issue. At one stage, the supporters of Abdul Halim swooped on the shops of their rivals Shukkur Molla and Yusuf Ali and looted valuables after vandalising those around 10:00 pm. Angered by the incident, the supporters of both groups attacked each other, leaving 10 people injured. The clash spread to Nabagram, Chabinagar, Chaturia and Masharia villages in the upazila. At least 13 houses were vandalised during the melee. Being informed, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, reports UNB.

15 injured in Jhenidah clash
JHENIDAH: At least 15 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over land-related dispute at Salemanpur village in Maheshpur upazila on Thursday. Shahjahan Ali, officer-in-charge of Maheshpur Police Station, said Abul Kashem and Azizul Haque had been at loggerheads over the ownership of a piece of land. As a sequel to the enmity, supporters of Kashem and Azizul, equipped with lethal weapons, attacked each other around 3:30 pm, leaving 15 people injured on both sides. The injured were rushed to Mahshpur Upazila Health Complex. Being informed, police rushed in and brought the situation under control, reports UNB.

Girl goes missing while bathing in Kushtia river
KUSHTIA:A teenage girl went missing while taking bath in the Garai River at Char Amlapara in the town on Thursday. The victim was identified as Samia, 23, a class VI student of Chand Sultana Girls’ School and daughter of Chand Ali of the area. Witnesses said Samia along with her sister and two others went to take bath in the river around 7:00 pm. At one stage, all of them were washed away by the strong current of the river. However, locals managed to rescue three of them while Samia remained untraced. Abdul Khalek, officer-in-charge of Kushita Model Police Station, said police were trying to retrieve the girl either alive or dead, reports UNB.
