Seminar on Digital Bangladesh held in Faridpur

FARIDPUR: A seminar titled ‘Special Initiative of Sheikh Hasina: Digital Bangladesh’ was held on Tuesday afternoon at the venue of ongoing Development Fair here. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Umme Salma Tanzia was the chief guest at the seminar while Police Super Subhash Chandra Saha and Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Kh. Mohetsham Hossain Babor were the special guests. ADC (Education & ICT) Eradul Haque chaired the occasion and presented the keynote paper on multimedia, prepared centrally for entire Bangladesh in connection with the Development Fair-2017. The tremendous development that the country has achieved since 2009 in all sectors has been highlighted in the presentation of the seminar. Addressing the occasion, DC Tanzia, who worked on information technology (IT), said an economic zone will be established at Faridpur giving importance to IT particularly for the young generation. Police Super Subhash Chandra Saha and Kh. Mohtesham Hossain Babor said Bangladesh is going to be the next global hub of IT because of its tremendous development, reports BSS.

Youth killed over sand extraction in Chandpur

CHANDPUR :A young man was killed in an attack by villagers over sand extraction through dredging from the Meghna River at Dashani in Matlab upazila on Tuesday. The victim was identified as Russell, 30, son of Ranju Mia of Dashani area. Alamgir Hossain Majumdar, officer-in-charge of Matlab North Police Station, said Russell, a dredger machine driver had been extracting sands from the river at Dashani point for the last few days at the behest of some influential people in the upazila. On Tuesday morning, some villagers went to the spot and asked Russell to refrain from dredging. As Russell ignored their request, the villagers beat him up mercilessly, leaving him critically injured. Russell died on the way to hospital. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to local hospital morgue reports UNB.

‘Hundi trader’ held in Jessore

BENAPOLE: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested an alleged ‘hundi’ (bill of exchange) trader with TK 4.02 lakh in Putkhali border area under Benapole Police Station earlyon Monday . The arrestee was identified as Zafor Hossain , 42, son of Ghesha Uttar Putkhali village. BGB sources said on secret information, a tam of the border guards took position on Putkhali road in the area early in the morning. Later, they intercepted motorcycle rider Zafor and recovered TK 4.02 lakh from his possession. The arrestee was handed over to Benapole Port Police Station. A case was filed in this connection, reports UNB.

6 fined for sand lifting in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ: A mobile court on Saturday fined six truck drivers Tk 10,000 each for lifting sand illegally at Biara Ghat in the municipality on Saturday afternoon. The convicted drivers are: Hasan Ali, 40, Suman, 25, Harez, 32, Ratan, 35, Buddu, 38 and Lal Chan Sheikh, 42.They will have to serve 10 days in jail if they fail to pay the fine.On secrete information that a group of people were lifting sand illegally at Biara Ghat in the municipality, a team of police conducted a drive there and arrested the six drivers, said officer-in-charge of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station Helal Uddin. Later, the arrestees were produced before the court of executive magistrate and upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Bronjon Chambugong who fined the drivers, reports UNB.
