SSC examinee stabbed to death in Mymensingh

A Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinee was stabbed to death allegedly by his friends at Ram Babu Road area of the town on Friday evening. The victim was identified as Ishtiaq Ahmed Tonmoy, 15, son of Farid Ahmed, SSC examinee from City Collegiate School in the town. Md Kamrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station said, Tonmoy hailing from Nalitabari upazila in Sherpur district was sitting with some of his friends at Ram Babu Road area around 6.30pm. After sometimes Tonmoy locked in an altercation with his friends and at one stage they stabbed to Tonmoy’s chest indiscriminately. Critically injured Tonmoy was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) where the doctors declared him dead, police said.
The body was kept at MMCH morgue for autopsy.
41 people held on various charges in Satkhira
SATHKHIRA: Police in special drives arrested 41 people on different charges from various places in seven upazilas of the district during the last 12 hours ending on Saturday. Police said, during the drives, Satkhira Sadar police arrested 13 people, Kalaroa police seven, Tala police four, Kaliganj police two, Shyamnagar police four, Assasuni police 10 Debhata police arrested one. Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added. The arrested were sent to jail this morning, reports BSS.
Construction of Muktijoddha complex progressing in Chuadanga
CHUADANGA:The construction works of a three storied Chuadanga District Muktijoddha Sangsad Complex building at a cost of Taka two crore 53 lakh and 60 thousand is going on satisfactorily. So far 25 percent of the total works has been completed and the rest work is expected to be completed by December next year. The complex building have a office of Sadar upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad, auditorium, guest house, sanitary system, water supply arrangement, electricity and other facilities. The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has been implementing the scheme which is fulfilled long time demand of the freedom fighters of the district, reports BSS.
Bird Fair begins in Meherpur
MEHERPUR: A two-day bird fair began at Pouro Community Centre in the town yesterday. District administration and district Livestock Department arranged the fair. Principal Farhad Hossein, MP, inaugurated it. “We should take initiatives to protect our natural resources by caring our nature” said Farhad Hossein. “Animals help us to protect our eco-system” he added. Some 28 stalls have been set up at the fair which will continue till tomorrow evening.
View exchange meeting on drugs held in Chuadanga
CHUADANGA: A view exchange meeting on “Drug and Smuggling” was held yesterday at Darsana Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) camp in Damurhuda upazila of the district to make Chuadanga a drug free zone. BGB of Darsana organised the view exchange meeting with Camp-in-Charge of Damurhuda BGB Tofazzal Hossain in the chair. Lieutenant colonel Amir Majid attended the meeting as the chief guest while Vice-Principal of Darsana Government College Professor Azizur Rahman was present as special guest. The speakers stressed the need for making the society free from all sorts of smuggling and drug abusers as those are the enemies of the society as well as the country.
