Workshop on pry education held in Netrakona

Participants at a day long workshop here yesterday underlined the need for designing a national level programme after collecting and reviewing recommendations from the people of all walks of life to continue operative the ongoing primary education networks during emergencies in the natural disaster prone areas of the country. They laid emphasis on the concerted efforts of all including public representatives, political leaders, government officers, teachers, NGO workers, civil society members, guardians and journalists for taking necessary pragmatic steps as well as proper monitoring networks to ensure a congenial academic atmosphere in all the primary educational institutions during the period of natural disasters including flooding, earth quake, tornado, cyclone, river erosion and landslides. Netrakona district administration in cooperation with UNICEF Bangladesh organized the workshop on “conceptualization of INEE (Intra-agency network for education in emergency) minimum standard of education in emergencies for Bangladesh ” at the conference room of Netrakona circuit house here yesterday. Chaired by deputy commissioner Netrakona DR Abul Kalam Azad, the inaugural session of the workshop was addressed, among others, by additional district magistrate Netrakona DR Abdur Rahim, additional deputy commissioner (revenue) Netrakona Yousuf Ali, district primary education officer Malabika Bhoumik, zonal head of UNICEF Mymensing office Omar Faruk, war-wounded freedom fighter Osman Gani Talukder, deputy civil surgeon Netrakona DR. Bijon Kanti Sarker, retired school teacher Saidur Rahman, general secretary of Netrakona press club Muklesur Rahman Khan.
Eviction drive at Amborkhana begins

Sylhet City Corporation started a special drive to evict illegal establishments from Amborkhana area in the city Thursday. Deputy Megistrate SCC Shorifuzzaman led the drive, which was started at around 11:30am. The SCC team will evict all illegal establishments from Amborkhana area, SCC officials said. According to some influential people grabbed over 8 decimail of land of the Amborkhana area for many years.
Mother killed, son injured in Jhenidah road crash

A mother was killed and her son was injured in a road crashed in Jhenidah at Amerchara bus stand under sadar upazila on Thursday evening.The deceased was identified as Amena Khatun, 35 wife of Abul Hossain of Saganna village of the upazila. The injured is Anisur rahman, 4 son of Abul Hossain. He is undergoing treatment at Jhenidah sadar hospital.Officer in charge (OC) Shahbuddin Azad of sadar police station said, on Thursday evening 7-00 pm Amena and her son was crossing the Amerchara bus stand. At the time a speeding passenger bus bound for Chuadanga hit them leaving mother dead on the spot while her son received injuries. On information police reached the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Jhenidah sadar hospital for an autopsy.
Boy gets life term for murder in Netrakona
NETRAKONA: A court here on Thursday convicted a boy and sentenced him to life term rigorous imprisonment (RI) in absentia for killing a man in 2006. The convict was identified as Rupam Chandra Chakrabarty, 19, of Machehala village in Barahatta upazila. The court also fined him Tk50,000, in default, to suffer five years more of rigorous imprisonment. According to the prosecution, Kajal Chandra Sarkar, 35, of Machehala village in Barahatta upazila, was hacked to death by the convict over a previous enmity on February 12, 2006. Sajal Chandra Sarkar, elder brother of the deceased, field a murder case accusing four people with Barhatta Police Station. Police submitted charge sheet against the four on April 19, 2006. After examining records and 12 witnesses, Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohamamd Abdul Hamid handed down the verdict while acquitted three others as the charges against them could not be proved, reports UNB.
One held with huge phensidyl in Gangni
MEHERPUR: Police in a drive arrested a drug peddler and recovered 1,099 bottles of contraband phensidyl from Hijalbaria village under Gangni upazila of the district this morning. The arrestee was identified as Fazlu Rahman, 48, son of Piarul Islam of Chhatarpara village under Daulatpur upazila in Kushtia district. On a tip-off, a team of police from Gangni Thana intercepted a truck in the area and arrested Fazlu and recovered the phensidyl after searching the truck, said officer-in-charge of the thana Riajul Islam. Sensing the presence of law enforcers others managed to escape. A case was filed with concerned police station in this connection, reports BSS.
