Battery run rickshaw owners, workers gherao BCC

The owners and workers of battery operated motorised rickshaws blocking roads held agitation rally and cordoned Barisal City Corporation on Tuesday noon. They also handed over memorandum to BCC authority demanding legalisations. The programme was organized by the owners and workers associations of battery operated motorised rickshaw, popularly known as ‘metro-rickshaw’, to press home their 4-point demands. The demands included issuing owners and driver’s licenses of battery operated motorised rickshaws, stopping lodging cases and harassing and detaining those vehicles, giving registration of the associations. The rally was addressed among others by Advocate A K Azad, central vice president Trade Union Center, Arman Hossain Malek, Nazrul Islam, Azizul Alam Sayed, leaders of the associations.
JL factions set fire to district office, block roads

A faction of the pro-Awami League activists on Wednesday evening brought out an agitation rally, vandalised Jubo League(JL) Jhenidah district unit office and set the office on fire protesting formation of new committee by the central leaders in Dhaka. The agitated Juba League men had also blocked Jhenidah-Kustia Highway near Arappur bus stoppage burning tires in the evening. Later the fire fighters of Jhenidah had brought the fire under control. The agitated activists then blasted two cocktails near the Paira Chatar in the town.
Discussion against formalin held in Gazipur

A discussion meeting against formalin was held at Bhawal auditorium presided over by Deputy Commissiner in Gazipur M. Nurul Islam on Sunday.Local Correspondent of different papers, president and secretaries of different associations of business participated and discussed on fruits, vegetables including fish business. Most the businessmen gave commitment to give up formalin which was used in different fruits and vegetables. The meeting was addressed by Additional District Magistrate Sebastane Rama, Additional Deputy Commissiner Md. Mohsin and others officers of different Govt. department, RAB officers also were present at meeting.Deputy Commissioner Nurul Islam and Police Super Gazipur announced that raid against adulterated commodities will be launched soon.
