Woman UP member injured in terrorist attack in Shibganj

A woman UP member was injured in a terrorist attack at Dhuppukur under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district on Wednesday evening. The injured UP member and also an Awami League activist was identified as Nurjahan Begum, 45, daughter of Manjur Hossain of Mobarakpur union under Shibganj upazila of the district. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Shibganj thana Mizanur Rahman and the local sources said, Nurjahan Begum was returning home from Kansat of Shibganj upazila by a passenger bus and as it reached Dhuppukur area at around 5-45 pm, miscreants detained the bus and took her out of the bus forcibly. They also chopped her and cut the tendons of her right hand and left leg, the sources added. She was rushed to the Shibganj Upazila Health Complex and then to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.
Cocktails, gun powder recovered,3 held
17 cocktails, 11 ramda and 4.670 grams of gun powder were recovered from Swarupnagar area under Chapainawabganj municipality and three persons were arrested in this connection Wednesday night. The arrested persons were identified as Mohammad Ali, 57, Rabiul Alam, 33, and Abul Kalam Azad, 33, all under Chapainawabganj municipality. RAB said, on secret information, a team of RAB-5 made a raid at a shop of Mohammad Ali in Upazila Market at 12 midnight and held him with the arms and gun powder. Later according to his statement RAB made the raid at the residences of the other two persons till 3 am and arrested them. Up to filing this report, the process for handing over the arrested persons to the police of Chapainawabganj sadar thana had been going on, RAB said.  
Child killed in Barisal road accident

A child was killed and another two injured after their battery
operated auto-rickshaw skidded to ditch at Kazi Para area in the city on Thursday noon. Police arrested auto-rickshaw driver Ruhul Amin in this connection. Police and injured sources said Khokan Haoladar with his wife Rawshan and son Tanim were going to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital from Banaripara on a rented auto-rickshaw. At about 1:00 pm the auto-rickshaw slipped to roadside ditch while giving side to a bus at Kazi Para on C and B road area of the city. Local people rushed to the spot started rescue operation. In that accident Tanim, 7, killed at the spot and his parents injured and sent to SBMCH.
University student commits suicide in Sylhet

A university student allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his house in South Surma upazila on Thursday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Mostafizur Rahman, 22, son of Abdus Salam of Shuklampur village in the upazila. Police said Mostafizur, student of private-run International University at Bagbari in Sylhet city, was found hanged in his room at about 3:00 pm.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
2 killed as train rams pick-up van in Jamalpur
Jamalpur: Two people were killed as a train rammed a
pick-up van on a level crossing at Mukul Bazar in sadar upazila on Friday. The deceased were identified as Samej, 27, driver of the pick-up van and Dulal, 36, a vegetable trader. Railway sources said the Dhaka-bound commuter train from Dewanganj rammed the pick-up van on the level crossing at about 6:45 am, leaving two people dead the spot and another injured. On information, a fire service unit rushed in and recovered the bodies. The injured vegetable trader, Palash, was rushed to Jamalpur General Hospital while the bodies were sent to the hospital morgue, repdports BSS.
WVB starts distributing edn materials in Mithapukur
RANGPUR: World Vision Bangladesh (WVB) started distribution of education materials among 3,000 most vulnerable children of different villages under Mithapukur upazila here from Thursday afternoon. On the inaugural day, education materials were distributed among 1,000 vulnerable children at a ceremony arranged at WVB office in Mithapukur town with its Mithapukur Area Development Programme (ADP) Manager Joseph Minj in the chair. The WVB will complete distribution of the education materials by tomorrow with assistances of members of the Integrated Village Development Committees under the programme to ensure education of the vulnerable children. Each of the beneficiary children is getting a package of eight exercise books, four pens, three pencils, three erasures and two sharpeners under the programme. Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Mithapukur upazila Mamun-ar-Rashid distributed the education materials and took part in a discussion arranged on the occasion as the chief guest, reports BSS.
