Private tutor sentenced for attempting to molest girl in Barisal

A mobile court in Gournadi of Barisal sentenced Shamim Haoladar, a family planning employee and private tutor, to 3 months imprisonment for attempting to molest his girl student on Saturday noon. Mahbub Alam, Gournadi upazila nirbahi officer and magistrate of the court, declared this verdict after the accused Shamim Haoladar confessed his crime before the court. Alauddin Milon, Gournadi police station officer in charge, said the sentenced accused sent to Barisal central jail on Saturday afternoon. Police quoting court sources said the victim girl was a student of class IX at Gournadi pilot school and taking private coaching from Shamim Haoladar. On Saturday morning when she went to her private tutor, found the house vacant and Shamim giving her bad proposal tried to molest her. Creating hue and cry she succeeded to flee from the grip of Shamim and informed her guardians. The guardians then informed police and police detaining accused Shamim produced before the mobile court, the OC added.

Meeting on “Women Development” held

MANIKGANJ: A view exchange meeting on “Women Development” was held here on Tuesday.
The meeting was held under the joint auspices of Bangladesh Police Women Network and Manikganj District Police. DIG of Bangladesh Police Headquarters Logistic Division Mili Biswas was present in the meeting as the chief guest While Rashida Ferdouse Deputy Commissioner of the district was the special guest.Fauzia Khandakar Eva, Gender Specialist, Shamima Begum, Special SP of Police Headquarters, Farida Yasmin, SP of Special Branch, Nasima Begum, Special SP of CID Forensic Department, Asma Begum, Additional SP of Special Crime and Zakir Hasan, Additional SP of Manikganj among others, spoke on the occasion. The chief guest said the half of the population of the country is woman. Without the development of woman the Nation cannot be prosper, she said.The woman folk of the society must be educated for the greater interest of the nation, she added. The function was presided over by Mahfuzur Rahman, Superintendent of Police of Manikganj. On this occasion, 200 pieces of lungies and sarees were distributed among the poor people of the district, reports BSS.

Nabanna festival celebrated in Faridpur

FARIDPUR: Nabanna utsab, the traditional Bengali festival on the first day of Agrahayan, was celebrated here in a befitting manner. Faridpur district administration organized a day long pitha festival at local Zilla parishad premises on the occasion on Monday. As many as 16 pitha stalls were set up by several organizations. The stalls were full of varieties of pithas where a large number of enthusiastic people gathered to see the different kinds of pitha with festive mood.
DC Umme Salma Tanzia inaugurated the pitha festival amid enthusiasm and fanfare.
At the end of festival, three pitha stalls- Primary schools stall, Ladies club stall and NGO stall secured first, second and third place. The stalls were given awards for excellent performance through displaying different varieties of pitha in the day-long festival. Later, a cultural function was also held on the occasion, reports BSS.
