Construction worker electrocuted at Charmonai

A construction worker has been killed after electrocuted during working at the site of building students hostel of Charmonai Madrasa on Wednesday noon.The victim was identified as Abdur Rashid, 31, son of late Helal Khandokar, from ward-7 under Charmonai union of Barisal Sadar upazila. Abul Kalam, ward master of Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital, said Abdur Rashid was electrocuted at about 12:00 noon and brought to SBMCH at about 2:00 PM Wednesday. Dr. Das Ranobir, medical officer of the SBMCH emergency unit declared him as dead, the hospital sources added.
Seminar on VAT held at Barisal

Speakers at a seminar on VAT and supplementary act 2012 said traders do not pay VAT but the consumers. They (traders) are the collectors of VAT. They also said the only source of income of the government is national board of revenue (NBR). People should pay their due VAT and taxes for the sake of the development of the country. Online project of national board of revenue arranged the programme in association with customs excise and VAT division, Jessore at Nawapara institute auditorium on Wednesday. Proshanto Kumar Roy, commissioner, tax appeal division, Khulna was the chief guest in the seminar. Chaired by Jamal Hossain, Commissioner, Customs Excise and VAT Division, Jessore. The seminar was attended among others by Dr Mohammad Al Amin Pramanik, customs commissioner, Mongla, Tasnimur Rahman, joint commissioner, Jessore, Sushanto Kumar Das, mayor, Nawapara Municipality, Gazi Nazrul Islam, president, Nawapara Bazar Traders Association and Al Amin, divisional officer, Jessore customs office and senior journalist Saifur Rahman Saif .
Passer-by killed in Fakirhat road mishap

An octogenarian passer-by was killed on the spot when he was run over by a speeding passenger bus bound for Mollahat on Dhaka-Khulna via Mawa Highway at Piljanga in front of Khan Feeling Station under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Kawsar Biswas (85), son of one late Yakub Ali Biswas of village Lalchandrapur within Mansha-Bahirdia Union under Fakirhat Upazila. It is learnt from SI Md. Jamal Shaikh of Katakhali Highway PS that on the day while the old man was crossing the road the killer passenger bus that was going from Rupsa (Khulna) to Mollahat dashed him violently from his behind and fled away. As a result, he was fatally injured and died on the spot.
SIU student commits suicide

Ashraful Islam Shelim (25), a student of BBA honours third year of Sylhet International University (SIU) at Shamimabad committed suicide by twisting sharee of his mother with the ceiling fan. The deceased hails from Azampur village under Duarabazar UZ in the District of Sunamgonj. He used to live at the 2nd floor of a rented house. ASI Benu Chandra of Lamabazar Police outpost, while recovering the dead body he (Shelim) was found wrapped up with his mother’s Sharee twisted around his throat. The dead body has been sent to Sylhet M.A.G Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Minor girl drowns in Sylhet
Mahia Begum (2) D/O Md. Abdul Hamid, village Mithrimahal under Nandirgaon Union of Gowainghat Upazila drowned to death at the neighbouring house’s pond at around 3.30 p.m. yesterday. She, evaded the family member’s knowledge and went to the pond in which she slid down. Officer-in-Charge of Gowainghat UZ Police Mr. Delwar Hussain confirmed the unnatural death.
