Fire gutted 8 rooms in Kurigram

A devastating fire burnt eight rooms of a house worth taka 10 lakh at Charuapara village under Kurigram municipality area at 3 pm on Tuesday.The fire was originated from a gas oven in the house of one Rahmant Ali Nantu. The owner of the house told that the fire sprayed rapidly and burnt eight semi pucca rooms with furniture worth taka ten lakh.Many people alleged that the fire may be originated from an electric short circuit from a room which was under lock and key.Sub Assistant Director of Kurigram Fire Service And Civil Defense Monjil Haque told that a total of eight rooms were burnt to ashes. The loss was primarily estimated at taka ten lakh.

Islamic congregation ends

A three day Islamic congregation (mini Iztema) of Tablic Jamat ends in Kurigram Govt.College ground with Akhere Munajat recently. The organizers of the iztema told that the mini iztemas are being held in 32 districts including Kurigram as the preparation for ensuing World Ijtema on next January at Tongi in Dhaka Gazipur.The Islamic devotees from all the nine upazilas in the district including from other districts attended there. More than three lakh devotees took part in the Iztema which begins from Thursday evening.Low enforcers were found alert as peace keepers. A temporary medical team was set up. In addition, sanitation systems were also satisfactory.Two devotees died of heart attack in different 2 days. They were identified as Abdus Samad 60 of Rajibpur upazila and Hafez Mokbul Hossain 50 of village Raygonj under Nageswari upazila in the district, sources said.

3 food shops fined in Rajshahi

Members of Department of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) fined three food shops Taka 16,500 on charges of selling sub-standard foods in the district yesterday. A team of the DNCRP conducted a raid in Jhalmalia Bazar and Kathalbari Bazar areas under Puthiya upazila of the district and found the shops guilty of preparing, possessing and selling foods in unhygienic condition. The team fined the shops Taka 16,000 and realized the money from the shop owners on the spot. Deputy Director of DNCRP Mahabubur Rahman said the drive against the violations of consumers’ rights will continue

One arrested over mysterious death of maid

A maid servant died mysteriously and as per sequel to this death, Khadim Begum, W/O house owner Mujammil Ali ,Advocate of Borobazar (Amberkhana) in Sylhet City has been arrested by Airport Thana Police, Mr. Musharraf Hussain, Officer-in-Charge of the Thana confirmed Khadima’s arrest. It has been learnt that Muzammil Ali Advocate’s village home is at frontier Gowainghat Upazila in Sylhet. About one and a half years ago, Mr. Muzammil brought his paternal niece Rukshana (12) of Gurakshi, Darikhai village of the same Gowainghat Upazila for helping in house hold activities. She died on Monday noon. Khadima told the police that Rukshana committed suicide and she has been recovered by breaking open the door of her bathroom. But police said that there had been no symptom of breaking open the bathroom door nor calling up the neighbouring people.

Dacoity at Kalni Express Intercity Train

A daring dacoity has allegedly been committed at Sylhet-Dhaka intercity train on Monday. It has been learnt from Kulaura Railway Junction Station Master Horipad Sarker that a group of dacoits in guise of passengers might get into the Sylhet-bound. Kalni Express either at Noapara or Shaistagonj and fell upon the passengers of the compartment delinking with other compartments. The dacoits took away money in cash, mobile phones and other valuable booties from the passengers in between Shamshernagar and Kulaura section and managed to get down when the train retarded its speed just before stopping at Kulauara Junction Station. A case has been lodged with Kulaura Railway Police in this connection. It has been learnt that The Kalni Express Starts at 4.00 p.m. from Dhaka and regularly reaches Sylhet after midnight- is an inconvenient time. If the timing could be advanced, delaying train and inconvenience owing to delay could be avoided, say some suffering passengers.

Godown gutted in Chitalmari

A go-down belonging to one Amal Poddar of village Rajnagar within Kalatala Union under Chitalmari Upazila in Bagerhat district was gutted when it caught fire recently. according to a report received here. It is stated that the go-down, somehow, caught fire in the after noon and it went out of control within moments. On seeing the flame of fire the locals rushed to the spot and tried their best to extinguish it, but in vain. As a result, the go-down along with its all belongings including paddy and jute was completely burnt to ashes. The loss of fire is estimated to Tk.2 lakh. But the cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.
