Human chain demands punishment to killers of RU student Lipu

Thousands of people including students, teachers and the near and dear ones formed a human chain at Amtala Bazer on Jhenaidah-Kushtia highway formed a human chain protesting the killing of a meritorious student of the department of mass communication and journalism in Rajshahi University Motaleb Hossain Lip. The demonstrators said, a gang of miscreants had killed the third year student Lipu belongs to Mokimpur village of Harinakundu upazila in Jhenaidah in the night of WQednesday. The killers should be identified and bring to books at no delay, they said. Mention may be made that Motaleb Hossain Lipu’s body was found in a drain adjacent to the dining room in the university on Thursday morning. There were a number of wounds on the head of Lipu, the family members informed.
AL leader arrested for setting fire on party symbol boat in Jessore

The police arrested the acting chairman of Pashapole union council under Chaugachha upazila and also assistant secretary of the union unit Awami League in charge of setting fire on the ruling party symbol the boat early Sunday. The arrestee is Abdus Salam, acting chairman of Pashapole union council and son of Gazi Jalaluddin who is also assistant secretary of Pashapole union unit Awami League. Akikul Islam, Sub inspector, Chougachha police station told that Abdus Salam is contesting for the post of chairman in the upcoming by election of Pashapole union council scheduled to be held on 31st October. ‘He was arrested on charge of setting fire on the symbol boat. The post of chairman became vacant as chairman Abul Kashem was killed by miscreants on August 31.
One killed, six injured in C’nawabganj road accident

One person was killed and six others were injured as a bhutbhuti (human hauler) and an auto-rickshaw collided head on at Delboltala under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district on Saturday afternoon.The deceased was identified as Rustam Ali, 60, son of Monu Mondal of Chaitannyapur Housenagar village under Dhainagar union of Shibganj upazila in the district. Of the injured persons, Fanus, 70, son of Roju Morol of Chaitannyapur Bamungaon village of Shibganj upazila and Abu Bakkar, 35, son of Zillur Rahman of Moharajpur village under sadar upazila were sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in a critical condition. Other injured persons were admitted to the Chapainawabganj sadar hospital. Police and local sources said, the accident occurred at 3 pm on the Chapainawabganj-Sonamasjid highway and Rustam died on the spot.
One held with fake currency notes in Chandpur
CHANDPUR: Police arrested a young man in possession of 26 fake currency notes amounting to Tk 26,000 from Chandra Bazar in Sadar upazila on Saturday. The arrestee was identified as Ripon, 24, a resident of Choto Luxmipur village in Haimchar upazila of the district. Sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station Rafiqul Islam said locals challenged Ripon when he gave a forged note of Tk 1,000 denomination to a shop owner at about 5:30pm. Later, 25 more forged notes of Tk 1,000 denomination were recovered after searching his body. On information, police rushed to the spot and arrested Ripon. A case was filed in this connection, reports UNB.
