World No Tobacco Day observed in Kishoreganj

The World No Tobacco Day- 2014 was observed in the district as elsewhere with a call to stop the use of tobacco by raising tax on tobacco products. The theme of this year is raise tobacco tax, lower death and disease. Civil Surgeon office arrangede a colourful rally, seminar and symposium. A discussion meeting on raise tobacco tax, lower death and disease held at Kishoreganj 250 bedded hospital conference room on Saturday. Civil Surgeon Dr Mrinal Kanti Pandit presided over the meeting. Additional District Magistrate Abdul Wadud Chowdhury attended as chief guest. It was addressed among others by Sadar Health Administrator Dr. Sultana Rajia, RMO Dr. Mohammad Ali, Child Specialist Dr. Mohosin and Dr. Abu Taher.
Open- House Day Conference held
Kishoreganj Model Police Station organised an Open- House Day conference at Thana Premises in the town on Saturday noon. Police Super Md. Anwar Hossain Khan was attended as Chief Guest. Sadar Model Thana Officer In-charge Mir Musharaf Hossain presided over the conference. Additional Police Super (Head quarter) Liton Kumar Saha and (Crime) Syed Mohammad Sayem were attended as special guest. It was addressed among others by Sadar Thana Awami League President Adv. Ataur Rahman, Police Inspector (Investigation) Mustafizur Rahman, Maria UP Chairman Md. Salauddin, Bouli UP Chairman Md.  Student sent to jail for defaming Prophet in Gournadi

A college student of Gournadi under Barisal district was sent to jail on Saturday for defaming Prophet (SM) in his face book status. Abul Kalam, Gournadi police station- in-charge, said local people detaining Tapas Mandal alias Arnab Mandal, from the front of Hosnabad Nizamuddin College handed over to Sharikal police camp, on Friday night for alleged defaming Holy Prophet (SM) in his social media facebook status. Police seized the mobile phone from him used for posting the alleged status on facebook. Kawsar Sheikh, assistant sub inspector of the PS as complainant lodged a case against Tapas on Saturday morning under information technology act and sent him to judicial magistrate court at Barisal. Court rejecting bail petition sent Tapas to Barisal jail at afternoon, police sources said.
Police arrest 30 in Sylhet

Dakshin Surma Police in a two-day drive, have arrested some 30 people in order to curb the incidents of political killings and improve the law and order situation. Police said the ‘suspected criminals’ were held from Railgate, Kodamtaly, Lawai and Chondipurl areas of the Sylhet district from early Wednesday to Friday morning. OC of Dakshin Surma Md Mursalin said, ‘The police conducting the drive. Some arms and ammunitions were also recovered. They will arrest the enlisted accused in different criminal cases,’ he added. They are currently engaged in cracking down on areas listed ‘vulnerable.’
