Body of missing day-labour recovered from Kirtankhola river

Police recovered dead body of Lokman Farazi, 35, a day labour, from Saheberhut branch of Kirtankhola River on Wednesday morning. Chinmoy Mitra, sub- inspector of Barisal Kotwali police station said, there was mark of sharp weapon injury on the recovered dead body may be caused by the hit of speed boat propeller and police handed over the dead body without autopsy to the family members as there was no allegation . Police and the victim’s family sources said Lokman became missing on Tuesday afternoon, when he went to Kirtankhola River for bathing with his son Ruhul Amin, 8, and became missing during swimming on river. Local people rescued the child at that time and Lokman remained missing.
Man killed in Sylhet

A person was stabbed to death in a rival attack in Sylhet recently. The deceased was Afroz Ali, 40, son of Abdul Mazid of village Chunarpara in the district. The alleged killer, Manzurul Islam, 36, was arrested from the spot after the incident, police said. He was a resident of the same village. Locals said the two were locked in a clash over a previous issue and one stage Manzurul stabbed Afroz. Afroz was critically injured and died at MAG Osmani Medical College on Sunday.
Jamaat man held in Sylhet
SYLHET: Police arrested an activist of Jamaat-e-Islami from Akhalia Neharipara in the city early Saturday. The arrestee was identified as Fahim Ahmed, 28, son of late Masddar Ali of the area. Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said a team of police led by Masum, assistant sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station, raided the house of Fahim’s uncle and arrested him at about 12:15 am. Fahim is wanted in a case filed for vandalism and attacking police during pre-election violence, said the OC.
Minor girl killed in Sunamganj road accident
SUNAMGANJ: A minor girl was killed and three other people were injured in a road accident in Monar Bhangti area of Jagannathpur upazila on Wednesday evening. The deceased was identified as Liza Begum, 5, daughter of Delwar Miah of Biswanath upazila. Police said the accident took place when a motorcycle ran over Liza in the area on the Jagannathpur-Biswanath- Rashidpur Road in the evening, leaving her injured critically. She was rushed to the upazila heath complex where doctors declared her dead. Three motorcyclists-Sakil, 25, Ripon, 27 and Mahbub 26– were also injured in the accident. They were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Office-in- Charge of Jagannathpur police station Asaduzzaman said police sized the motorcycle, reports UNB.
25 hurt in Chuadanga road crash
CHUADANGA: At least 25 people were injured in a road accident in Bhalaipur area of Sadar upazila on Wednesday afternoon. Witnesses said the accident took place when a Chuadanga-bound speeding bus from Meherpur ploughed through a fish market in the area around 3:00pm, leaving 25 people injured. On information, two units of firefighters came in and rushed the injured to the Sadar hospital, among which five were in serious condition. Agitated traders of the market blocked the Chuadanga-Meherpur road for an hour, reports UNB.
RCC meeting reviews dev works

The monthly meeting of the Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) was held at Nagar Bhaban conference room in the city on recenty . Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) and valiant freedom fighter Alhaj Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhantu presided over the meeting. The meeting discussed progress of the various ongoing infrastructural development works being conducted in the city, approved estimated costs of several new development projects and other important issues. On the other hand, decisions have been taken to set up an ICT data centre, leasing process of 25 water bodies, some hats, and waste management agreement between City Corporation and Rangpur Medical College Hospital to remove medical waste, and naming of different roads.The meeting also took some other important decisions for smooth running of the RCC administration ensuring transparency, accountability and cleanliness at all levels to ensure the best services to the city dwellers. Among others, the meeting was addressed, by RCC Panel Mayor Golam Kabir Kajal, Chief Executive Officer Ruhul Amin Khan, Councilors Sekendar Ali, Mahbubar Rahman Manju and other councilors.
