Traditional boat race held in Narsingdi

The traditional boat race competition was held at Meghan river organised by Sher-e-Bangla Club, Narsingdi on Saturday afternoon. Several thousands people including man, women and children of through the both sides and passengers boats of the meghna river enjoyed the boat race. A total of 36 teams from Narsingdi, Kishorganj, Brahmanbaria, Hobigonj, Bhairab, Comilla, N.gonj and others district took part in the event. In the competition Md Osman Mollah and his groups of Brahamanbaria district under Shorayal upazila became champion and while boat of Faroque Miah and his groups of Narsingdi district under Narsingdi Sadar upazila obtained first runner up, Shomser Ali and his groups of N.gonj Nikli second runner up place. Sher-E-Bangla Club Narsingdi organised the traditional boat race in Meghna every years. State Minister For Water Resources Lt col ( Reted) Nazrul Islam Hiru (Birpratik) attended boat race competition as chief guest while Additional Secretary and President of Sher-e-Bangla Club Kaikobad Hossan chaired the meeting. The function was addressed among others by Kamrozzaman Kamrul Mayor of Narsingdi Pourashava, general secretary Sher-E-Bangla Club Nur-E-Alam Nanno and managing director of Bhoiyan Group Manhazul Abedin Rajo Bhoiyan. The race started from Nolbata ghat of Raipura upazila and ended at UMC Jute Mials ghat of Narsingdi Sadar upazila (20 km long distance). State Minister For Water Resources Lt col ( Reted) Nazrul Islam Hiru (Birpratik) enjoyed the pleasure of boat race, he handed over the prizes among the champion group and runner up.
Minor boy tortured in Mongla

A minor boy named Shakil (7) was allegedly tortured brutally and inhumanly after tying him with iron rods by 2 persons- one of them is Abul Hossain, owner of a Bhangari Shop (where old and broken rods, iron, aluminum other metallic made articles are purchased) and the other is his employee Shkkur in front of Traders’ mosque in Mongla port town in Bagerhat district on Friday in a broad day light in the plea of the charge of committing theft. The ill-fated boy is the son of a day labourer of Mongla Srama Kalyan Road. Being informed of the matter police of Mongla PS rushed to the spot, recovered the boy and arrested Shukkur (48) one of the accused persons. In this connection father of the boy registered a case with Mongla PS on the same day.
Elephant found dead in Sherpur
SHERPUR: A wild elephant was found dead at Panbar village in Kangsha union of Jhinaigati upazila on Saturday night. Locals said a herd of 30-35 elephants came down from their nearby hill and started damaging crops at the village around 9.30am. The elephants also damaged the houses of two farmers. Later, the corpse of one of the elephants was found at the village. “The elephant might have been killed by villagers,” said Zahurul Haque, chairman of the union. Earlier, two people, including a woman, were killed in an elephant attack in the district last week, reports UNB.
Man held with heroin in Rajshahi

A team of Narcotics Control Department arrested a man along with 100 grams of heroin from Sultanganj Bazar in Godagari upazila on Thursday night. The arrestee was identified as Shariful Islam Bishu, son of late Abdul Kuddus of Jahanabad village of the upazila. Khandaker Najim Uddin, inspector of Rajshahi Narcotics Control Department, said tipped off, a team of the department conducted a drive in the area and arrested Bisshu at about 9.30pm. They also recovered 100 grams of heroin from his possession. The arrestee was handed over to Godagari Police Station. A case was filed in this connection.
