UNB, Dhaka :
The government is actively considering enactment of the Liberation War defamation law.
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq said this in Parliament on Sunday replying to a starred question from Awami League MP Waresat Hussain Belal, Bir Protik (Netrakona-5).
“Tendency of distorting history of the Liberation War and of the then period
has turned into a habit of some irresponsible politicians after the gruesome killing of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members in 1975,” the minister said.
In this context, if any person defamed the great Liberation War overall by providing unnecessary or untrue information, or delivering untrue remarks or publishing misleading information regarding the Liberation War or the history of the then period, it will be counted as crime in the probable law, he noted.
To take punitive action against the person concerned, the government is actively considering enactment of the Liberation War defamation law, he went on.
Meanwhile, the government is also actively considering brining amendment to the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act 1973 for trying Jamaat as a terrorist organization, Anisul said.
In reply to another starred question from AL MP Abul Kalam (Natore-1), the Law Minister said the government is determined to try those who were involved in killing people by resorting to arson attacks.
Those who killed people indiscriminately resorting to arson attacks will be brought to justice following investigation, he said.
The trial process of such crimes will be completed in faster manner, the minister hoped.
