Bashakhi Sangeet Academy on Friday organised an Eid reunion, accorded reception to meritorious students and held a cultural show in Narsingdi Pourasabha auditorium. A total of 10 students, who secured A+ in the last PSC, JSC and SSC examinations, from Baishakhi Academy were honoured at the function. Mayor of Narsingdi Pourasabha Kamruzzaman attended the function as chief guest. Former principal of Narsingdi Government College Prof Mohammad Ali, former principal of Narsingdi Government Mohila College Kalam Mahmud, assistant literary secretary of Bangladesh Awami Volunteer League Prof Mohammad Motaher Hossain Razvi, and journalist Majharul Farvez Montee addressed the function as special guests. The chief guest and special guests then handed over crests to the brilliant students of Bashakhi Academy. Asaduzzaman, president of Bashakhi Sangeet Academy, presided over the function.
JCD leader held in Chuadanga
CHUADANGA: Police arrested a local leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) from Court Road area in the district town on Friday night on various charges. The arrestee was identified as Imran Mahaldar Rintu,25, son of Abdul Kuddus Mahaldar, a resident of Kedarganj area of the district town. Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Tozammel Haque said tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Rintu at about 9.30pm. The arrestee was accused in several cases, including for hurling crude bombs at police van, the OC added, reports UNB.
Tk 10 kg rice rationing creates positive impact
BARGUNA: The introduction of rice rationing at Tk 10 per kg has created a positive impact among the ultra poor families in the district. According to official sources, 54,618 ultra poor families have been getting the opportunity of buying 30 kgs of rice in a month to mitigate their hardship during the lean season of Bhadra-Ashwin-Kartik. The government has introduced this food safety programme for the poor in the wake of a rise in the price of rice in markets. Selling of rice at Tk 10 per kg has substantially reduced the sufferings of the ultra poor in the district. Sufia Begum of village Kukua under Amtali upazila said, “My family needs three kgs of rice every day. For purchasing rice, I had to spend Tk 105. But now I am getting the same at a cost of Tk 30 only. This programme has come as a boon for us. reports BSS.
2 held with heroin, Phensidyl, Yaba
BENAPOLE: Police in a drive arrested two drug peddlers along with one kilogram of heroin, 50 bottles of Phensidyl syrup and 100 pieces of Yaba tablets at Satmaile in Sharsha upazila on early Saturday. The arrestees were identified as Harun-or-Rashid, 30, son of Siad Ali, a resident of Kumari village in Jhikargachha upazila, and Ripan Biswas, 28, son of Atiar Biswas of Sonabaria villge in Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira district. Officer-in-charge of Sharsha Police Station Maniruzzaman said Harun and Ripan were going to Navaran riding a human hauler with a consignment of drugs. Acting on secrete information, a team of police, led by Sub-inspector Habib of Baganchra Police camp, intercepted the human hauler at Satmaile and searched the vehicle, reports UNB.
